Benny L. Hammond, Sr. 68, of Seymour passed away on July 7, 2023, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky surrounded by his family.  Benny was born on February 14, 1955, in Seymour to James Russell and Margie (Burton) Hammond.  On July 27, 1972, he married Cathy Byers in Gatlinburg, TN and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2018.

Benny is survived by his children: daughter, Sara Jo (Jason) Anderson and son, Benny L. Hammond, Jr.; sisters, Joann Cox and Jenny Galvan; grandchildren, Ethan Anderson and Maggie Anderson; nieces, Melissa White and Kimberly Clegg.  Benny was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Cathy Hammond and one son, Coady Russell Hammond

He was a graduate of Seymour High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.  Prior to his retirement, he was a fork truck driver for J.C. Grubbs.  Benny was a member of the American Legion, Bass Master’s Fishing Club, American Horse Club, and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Cremation graveside services for Benny will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 11:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Seymour with Rev. Dr. Ralph Blomenberg officiating.  There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to the graveside service.  Military honors will be conducted graveside by the VFW Post 1925 and the United States Marine Corps Burial Detail.
