Mr. Berl John “Bucky” Grant, 81, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Logansport, Indiana to the late Berl E. and Theresa (Gilsinger) Grant.
Funeral mass will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 9 at 10 am with Fathers Dan Staublin and Joseph Sheets officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday at Voss & Sons Funeral Service at 3:30 pm followed by visitation
from 4-7 pm. Friends and family may also call on Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church from 9 am until time of service.
Berl was a graduate of Logansport High School, class of 1956, where he was senior class president, state president of Key Club, and a 4-sport athlete lettering in basketball, baseball, track and football. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering in 1960 from Purdue University where he was an officer of ATO fraternity and a member of the cheer squad. After graduating, he worked for GM (Delco) as a field and sales engineer. He later earned a master’s degree in Industrial Administration from Purdue University. His career took him to CTS Corporation in Elkhart, IN, moving from Assistant to the President in their electronics division, to Corporate Treasurer before becoming President of their Metal Products Division. He was then President & CEO of Seymour Manufacturing from 1989 until retirement in 2012.
On June 26, 1965, Berl married Bridget E. Leigh. They had two wonderful children, Zach and Bridey, who wrote this. Berl was an avid pilot and enjoyed using airplanes to discover new and interesting places to visit. He was a recipient of the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for over 50 years of safe flying. Berl was an accomplished sailor, liked to ski, paint, root for the Boilermakers and his beloved Fighting Irish. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Sorin Society, Freeman Field Flying Association, EAA, AOPA, the UFOs, Quiet Birdmen, and served on the board of the Freeman Army Airfield Museum.
Berl is survived by his children, Zachary (Amanda) Grant and Bridget “Bridey” (Mark) Jacobi; grandchildren, Samantha and Alana Jacobi; sister, Gloria Klein as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bridget Grant; sister, Jacqueline Posthauer.
