Mr. Carrol Dean Shelton, 80 of Seymour, passed away under the caring staff of Schneck Medical Center Hospice, on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Dean’s family was there with him, caring for his needs, through this illness.
He was born at home in Medora, Indiana, on August 5, 1934, the son of the late John Wesley and Grace Elizabeth (Hamilton) Shelton.
Dean was a U.S. Air Force veteran, who served in the Korean War.
Dean was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour. He retired from Swains Industry after 20 plus years of service. He then went to work at Schneck Medical Center, in the Security Department where he also retired from after several years of service.
Dean enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. He loved to study U.S. History, Indian affairs and watch westerns movies.
On October 8, 1955, he married Mary Elaine Pierce, at the Brownstown Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Elaine, son Kevin (Johnnie) Shelton, daughter Linda (Michael) Robson, sister Vivian Bowers, grandchildren Michelle & Mike Rhodes, Ed & Buffie Mitchell, Shavonne & Mike Moyer, Elaina & Deji Adenyi, Brandon Robinson & Natalie Herron, Valerie Shelton, Michael Robinson & Erin Mankiller, Jeremy & Katherine Robson and Michael J. Robson, II, 23 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Raymond, Ervan, William and Vincent Shelton, sisters Flossie Hopkins, Jewelle Waskom and Wilma Branaman.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October15th, at Voss Chapel, with Rev. David Schrock, officiating assisted by Rev. Steve Barrett.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday after 9 a.m. until time of service.
Burial will follow at Proctor Cemetery, Dixon Chapel. Full military graveside service will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, DAV, Korean and Vietnam veterans, all of Seymour.
Memorials may be written to Schneck Medical Center Hospice or Calvary Baptist Church.
