Charles Fettig

Mr. Charles “Charlie” William Fettig, 63, of Seymour passed away at his home on March 25th, 2020. He was the son of Victor Thomas “Tom” Fettig and Norma J. (Patrick) Fettig.

Charlie was employed by Resource, Mfg. at RR Donnelly in Seymour. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the American Legion.

He was known for the amount of effort that he put into his Smalltown magazine that captured the personalities and lives of local residents. He was a jokester and quick to prank those in his circle and above all else he enjoyed life to the fullest, known to some as “Good Time Charlie.” Charlie was a wonderful caregiver to his mother in his home, until her passing. His siblings have fond memories of their childhood growing up across from the Catholic Church and will cherish those memories for eternity. His family has been in Seymour for generations and he was always happy to call it home. He was loved by all.

Charlie never had any children but he is survived by his longtime companion Gale Fettig and her daughter Shawnda Durham; and her children, Samantha Durham and Noah Brown; sister Barb (Charles) Stout; brother, Patrick (Rick) Fettig (Alexandra Bottorff); nieces and nephews, Tommy Stout, Danny Stout (Blaine Stout), Jesse Fettig, Riley Fettig, Ellie Fettig, Jackson Roberts; great nieces, Sydney and Lela Stout; great nephews, Jacob and Bryce Bense.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, William H. Fettig (1899-1950) Irene (Sweany) Fettig (1903-1964), Charles W. Patrick (1895-1965), and Gertrude (Winkler) Patrick (1902-1999).

Services for Charlie have been entrusted to Voss and Sons Funeral Service and a celebration of life will be scheduled once the current Coronavirus crisis is resolved.

Charlie my friend. I didn't get to know you long. But I didn't have to, the first time we met it was as if we had known each other all of our lives. You made a great impact on me and made me a better person just knowing you. We'll meet again at the river. Keep a watch over the dream we shared. Ole' fashion Nashville Road Show. Charlie was one of a kind. I remember when I was opening a second hand store near hospital 15 years ago, he stopped in one night while I was working hanging racks trying to get open...of course he was trying to get me to place an add in his magazine :) I was at work early the next morning and here he comes with 2 other men. I didn't know him and was a little nervous when they just walked in my store, but figured he was there to try again to get me to advertise with him...no, he and his friends came in and totally put my store together for me building me 2 counters and hanging all the racks to make it look like a new store. They were Angels to me that day! My husband had passed away and I was doing it all alone...until they showed up and stayed late until it was completely put together and ready to open, never asking for anything in return and refused money... was thankful and bless and of course I always advertised. He truly was one of a kind and i was blessed to meet him.

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Charlie,you will be missed bud. Fly high.

Charlie was passionate about his work as well as his friends & family my prayers to his loved ones for their loss to guy who gave his ALL!

Growing up on Carter St. in Seymour, across the street from St. Ambrose school playground afforded me and my brothers the opportunity to friend the Fettig kids and we enjoyed playing together on the playground and in the grassy area off of Chestnut St. My brother Ronnie was in Charlie's kindergarten class, as long w/ our cousin Bobby Clark. Mrs. Weider was their teacher then, way back in 1962. I remember finding out about his diabetes diagnosis when we were just 12 years old in 1968. He had to learn at such a young age to control it w/ daily shots of insulin. He was a robust fellow though, and worked his tail off back in 76/77 out at Cort Acres, a division of Rose Acre Farms. He impressed the heck out of me w/ his framing skills. He became a larger than life figure after following his dream of becoming a self made publisher and producing " The Maple Tree" and then "Small Town Monthly" magazines, of which I still have in my possession several back issues. I consider Charlie my dad, he was married to my mom and we still talked regularly. Distance kept us from crossing paths and it's extremely upsetting we never got together again. Much love from the Hrouda family in Missouri.

I loved Charlie. I enjoyed Chatting with him. And I just loved. His magizen. I Remember My big Sister Miss Mary. Working on it many many times ! I loved reading it. I sure loved the Back page !
