Charles Robert Hunterman, long-time Seymour resident, passed away January 30, 2022, in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. Born 1923 in Seymour, Indiana he was the son of the late Charles Hunterman and Lilla Hauenschild Hunterman, brother of the late Lois Hunterman Roberts, and the late Mildred Hunterman Tuttle. In 1947, he married Dorothy Mae Vance in Mishawaka who died in 1977.

They had three children: Brian (Paula Wishmeier) Hunterman, Elaine (Steve) Ampfer, and the late Alan Hunterman. Charles had five grandchildren; Sarah (Joe) Glassmeyer, Emily (Kevin) Begley, Ben Hunterman, Jon (Kelsi) Becker, and Scott (Kelsey) Becker; three great granddaughters; Lennon Glassmeyer, Oaklyn Becker, and Baby Begley due February 2022, one step granddaughter, Christi (Chad) Townson, and two step great grandchildren; Carson, and Charlotte Townson.

He had three nieces and one nephew: Lin (Robert) Venable, Sue Lutz, Karla Sparano (deceased), and Charles (Bonnie) Roberts.

In 1979, he married Eddie Lee Greaves in Seymour, who died in 1994. Charles had 3 stepchildren; Sandee (Paul) Ramsey, Mark (Kathie) Greaves, and the late Carl (Pam Greaves-Anderson) Greaves, seven step grandchildren; Chad and Carrie Miller, Kyle, Kevin, Gregg Greaves, Laura Wheat, and Bryan Ramsey; and eight step great grandchildren.

His long-time close friend, Libby Thomas, preceded him in death. Her children and grandchildren were very special to him.

He was a graduate of Shields High School in Seymour in 1941. Holder of B.S. degree in 1948 and M.A. degree in 1953 from Ball State University, Mr. Hunterman also earned graduate credit at Colorado University, Butler University, John Herron Art Institute, Purdue University, and Indiana University.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 during which time he was stationed overseas in Algeria, India, Burma, and China.

He was a teacher of art and driver education in junior and senior high schools of Seymour from 1948-1985. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Seymour, he served as chairman of the official board, a Sunday school teacher and choir member and served on other boards and commissions of the local district and conference levels.

He served for over 30 years as a director of the Riverview Cemetery, was a member and past president of Region 10 Ivy Tech Board of Trustees, and was a member and past president of the Seymour Public Library Board of Trustees.

He was a past president of the Seymour Classroom Teachers’ Associates and a member and officer of other professional organizations.

While teaching, he was affiliated with the local high school sports including ticket manager and publicity director for many years.

He enjoyed the fine arts, travel, sports, church, and family activities.

In the last eight years, he made many friends at Highland United Methodist Church and at the Barrington of Ft. Thomas where he resided, including close friend Winona Hanks.

Visitation will be held on Friday February 4, 2022, at Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour, Indiana from 5pm to 8pm and on Saturday February 5, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Seymour from 10am until time of the service. Service will be held on Saturday February 5, 2022, at 11am at First United Methodist Church.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church in Seymour, Indiana or Highland United Methodist Church in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky in care of Voss and Sons Funeral Service.
