Dan and I were best friends growing up. His father and mine ran the Tipton Inn for many years before my father left the business. Sports, school, church, along with many others from our St. Ambrose class. I have thought about him often and have missed him . Prayers and condolences to his family, and hellos to our classmates.

I just loved Danny. He had such a great sense of humor. I first discovered this the summer after I graduated from SHS. Danny and I were the “Recreation Directors” for the summer parks program at Shields Park. All we ever had at our “official picnic table” were boys. We had our very own Bad News Bears including Manny Valverde, Roger and Curt Nichols. . . And I wish I could remember all the others! I have to admit doing crafts, including gluing macaroni to juice cans and spray painting them gold . . . But, by far, our best gig was baseball/softball. After I became a teacher, I loved it when Danny was subbing and he had my same lunch period. He was always an upper. . . And I loved his laugh. I could go on and tell stories about his kids - SORRY - too much to type! Even though I haven’t seen much of him in the past few years - he will be sorely missed. My love to his wonderful family - Jan Hines

Rebecca Davis Mathias left a message on May 31, 2021:
The Henkle family was always one of our favorites at St. Ambrose and Dan, being the oldest, was a real leader in the community. His self-giving, excellence in sports, and virtues of faith, respect, and discipline were inspiring, contagious and life-giving. He'll be in our hearts always and we're grateful to God that we had the privilege of being the recipients of his positive impact on our communities. Thank you, Dan, and now that you are with Him, as His loyal friend, may God assign you to his next great blueprint to continue His Kingdom-building. May God grant the peace and comfort that only He can provide to each of your blessed family members. Love and peace, Rebecca Davis Mathias (Becky Davis - school friend of Dan's wonderful sister, Debbie Miller).

He was my favorite teacher. He took the time to stay after school when I was struggling in Math. He didn't have to do that. He was compassionate. I finally got good grades. I will never forget what he did for me. St. Ambrose had one of the finest men and teachers. Wonderful person and great family. Loretta and family you have my love and prayers.
