

Daniel Joseph Henkle, 73, of Seymour, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Dan was born in 1947 to Theodore Jess Henkle and Loretta Irene (Maschino) Henkle.
He was a devoted member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour. On June 22, 1975, he married his best friend Deborah Jane Myers, and she survives. Dan was a Seymour High School graduate, class of 1965 then went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s College Rensselaer, Indiana in 1969. In 1968, he became an Indiana High School Athletic Association Official and remained one until the time of his passing. Dan was also a member of the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. Dan was an educator and a coach who will be deeply missed by all the lives that he touched while sharing his love for sports. He began his teaching career at Saint Ambrose Catholic School from 1969 to 1975. In 1975 he joined the family business and worked at Swifty Oil Company Incorporated until 1990. Dan then returned to teaching and coaching for Seymour Community Schools until his retirement in 2014.
He is survived by his wife; children, Katie (Chris) Walls, Kristen (Patrick) Riecke, Kimberly (Kenneth) Cochran, D.J. (Jordyn) Henkle, Kelly (Steve) DuMond, Ted (Alexandra) Henkle, and Tyler Henkle; 25 grandchildren; brothers, Tim (Rhonda) Henkle, Rob (Vikki) Henkle; sisters Karen (Jim) Wilson, Debbie (Jeff) Miller; mother, Loretta Henkle; brother-in-law Rick Peters and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dan was preceded in death by his father; sister, Jane Peters; brothers, James and Joseph Henkle, granddaughter Kamille Jane Walls; father-in-law, Don Myers Sr.; mother-in-law LaDonna West; and nephew, Kyle Henkle.
Rosary service will be held prior to visitation on Thursday at 3:30.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Voss & Sons Funeral Service from 4-8pm. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour from 10am until time of funeral mass.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021, conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at St. Ambrose Catholic Church at 11am officiated by Father Dan Staublin, assisted by Deacon Mike East. Rev. Patrick Riecke will deliver the family eulogy.
Burial will follow at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery in Seymour.
Memorials may be written to Dan Henkle Memorial Scholarship Fund, Jackson County Special Olympics, or St. Ambrose Catholic School.
Due to church requirements, masks must be worn at all times while inside the church during visitation and funeral mass.
