Danny Sloan, 72, of Seymour, passed away on February 18, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born in 1948 to the late Dale Sloan and Evelyn (White) Sloan who survives in Marengo, Indiana. He graduated from Marengo High School and Oakland City College with an Associates Degree in General Studies.
Danny chose a career serving his country in the military at Camp Atterbury, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was also a member of the Seymour Christian Church. He was on the City Council for many years, member of the Planning and Zoning Comission, and Seymour Housing Authority. Danny loved spending time with his grandchildren, serving others in the community, watching his grandson play baseball and gardening.

On June 1, 1969 in Marengo, IN he married the love of his life Suzanne L. Key. She preceded him in death in 2014.

He is survived by his children; Angie (Curtis) Klakamp and Erin (Eric) Darlage; grandchildren; Sophie Klakamp, Aiden Darlage, and Leigha (Daniel) Charles; great grandchildren; Benjamin Thompson and Archer Charles. He is also survived by his mother Evelyn, brother Gil (Michelle) Sloan, sisters Tara Sue (Tony) Jones and Robin (Tracy) Asher, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dad and wife.

A memorial walk through visitation will be held at Voss and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 4-6 PM.

A memorial walk through visitation and service will be at Dillman-Green Funeral Home 121 E Water Street, Marengo, Indiana 47140 on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 12-2PM with service at 2 PM.

Burial will follow at the Marengo Cemetery.

We are honoring Danny’s wishes through Voss & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory providing cremation service.

Memorials may be written in care of Voss Funeral Home to Marengo Town Council Building Projects.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required before admittance as well as social distancing within the building. We kindly ask that there be no physical contact such as hugs or handshakes to protect staff and the family.

Had the privilege of working for Chief at UTES and later on active duty until his retirement. Learned a lot from Chief over the years, he was a leader and mission oriented. Too many stories to share here but we spoke on the phone a lot before he got sick, he will be missed it's hard to believe he is gone. We attended the funeral in his home town the Ceremonial Unit did Chief a great service. God bless until we meet again

It was my great privilege to meet and work with CWO Sloan at Atterbury some twenty years ago. It was an unusual circumstance - civilians operating front-line Army equipment at a reserve forces facility - that could go wrong in a lot of ways, but Mr Sloan’s wisdom and steady hand made it all go without a hitch. We had three vehicle failures “way out in the woods” and Danny rescued us each time, on one occasion improvising a tracked vehicle repair using nothing more than a downed tree limb. His exemplary work made my tasks so much easier. I remember also all the work he did in helping Marengo recover from the 30 May 2004 tornado, and I am certain this was only a small fraction of the time he spent to help others over the course of many years. CWO Sloan was a good man indeed, and we are the poorer that he is gone.

I met Danny through my son Jon. I was very grateful to Danny for his help in directing my son through enlisting in the guards. He was always so kind and thoughtful to be there for him. My heart and prayers go out to you all. Kathy O'Sullivan

I got acquainted with Danny when I was assigned to Co D, 738th Maint Bn.....he was a great friend and an outstanding NCO.....I always appreciated him and learned to value his advice....I am proud that I could call him my friend....

Danny was a great friend and neighbor. I Loved working with him on building projects, fishing, going to auctions and flea markets, and just visiting in the barn. He gave me a lot of good advice through the years. Will miss you old buddy.
