David Ison, 81, of Seymour, went home to be with his Lord on July 09,2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Harlen County, Kentucky, on November 23, 1938 to the late Henry and Osa (Frazier) Ison.
David was a member of Freetown United Methodist Church. On August 4, 1961, David married Sharon (Carmichael) Ison; she preceded him in death on April 28, 2018. He retired from Golden Foundry in Columbus after many years of service. He served the Lord as Pastor of Freetown & Surprise United Methodist Churches and was the previous Pastor at Christiansburg & Mt. Nebo.
David had a wonderful tradition of giving everyone he encountered an ink pen with three scriptures listed on each pen. It was his special way of making sure he sent a part of himself and his love for the Lord with everyone he met. He has blessed 700 people with his special pens, giving them out until his very last day.
David leaves behind his children, Lisa (Denny) Hamilton, Terri (Mike) Pettit; grandchildren, Kaleb (Lindsey) McKinney, Kegan (Erin) McKinney, Samone (Zach) McCallie, Mitchell (Molly) Pettit; great-grandchildren, Norah McKinney, Lena Pettit, Sawyer McCallie, Everett McKinney; sisters, Emellou Day, Annual Vone Halcomb, Mary Katherine Burnside as well as many church family and friends.
Family preceding David in death are his parents; his beloved wife; and his brothers, Armond Ison and Donald Ison.
Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Monday, July 13, 2020 with Rev. Glen Poynter officiating. Burial will follow at Freetown Cemetery. Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Sunday, July 12 ,2020 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic; face masks and social distancing are required in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family asks that you honor David’s love for the church and his support of the Pershing Township Fire Department with memorials given to Freetown United Methodist Church, Surprise Methodist Church, the Pershing Township Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of your choice in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
