Devin Baker, 58, passed away peacefully in his Indianapolis home while surrounded by his loving family Sunday, August 4, 2024. He was born August 7, 1965, in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Larry E. Baker and Carolyn (Pennington) Wright. His mother Carolyn survives.
Devin loved nature, flower gardening, waterfalls, and all things in the great outdoors. He and his husband Bill loved traveling together, and some of their favorite destinations included Gatlinburg Tennessee’s Biltmore Gardens, Nashville Tennessee, and South Carolina. Devin was known for his love of all kinds of music and his mastery of calligraphy, which gave him beautiful penmanship. But by far his greatest passion in life was taking care of others, especially when it came to cooking for friends and family. An extremely caring person, he would go out of his way to make every occasion special. Backyard pool parties at his home, affectionately known as “Cool Blue Waters,” were legendary, especially on the 4th of July. His home was the “go-to place” for great gatherings. Devin loved making sure everyone was well fed; and if you asked him to bring a dish to an event, he would bring three or four.
Devin will be dearly missed by those who survive: his husband, Bill Stewart; his mother, Carolyn (Claude) Wright; sister, Noelle (Todd) DeHaven; nieces, Preston DeHaven and Paxton (Kirk) Manns; great niece, Thea; several beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins; and stepmother, Bonnie Baker.
He is preceded in death by his father, Larry E. Baker; and grandparents, Charlie and Maudeline Pierson, Robert Pennington, and John and Vera Baker.
Funeral services for Devin will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral Home, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana. Pastor Larry Tingle will officiate. Calling will be at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Devin will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
