Mr. Donald E. Matzner, 77 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at home with his family by his side.
Don was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 7, 1938, to the late Emil and Jenny Costanzo Matzner.
He married Sylviane Verdie on May 24, 1982, in Los Angeles, California, and she survives.
Don graduated in the class of 1955 from Bellarmine Jefferson High School in Burbank, California, then received his Associate’s Degree from Pasadena City College in 1958, in Pasadena, California. He was a member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Church where he worked as a Youth Minister until his retirement. He was a former member of the Indiana National Guard. Don had many passions in his life. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren very much. He was very involved with many organizations in our community. He showed his vast love for children with his involvement with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), as well as serving as a foster grandparent with the program at St. Ambrose Schools. One of Don’s true passions was the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Father Rivet Assembly #247 and Council 1252, Seymour, Indiana. He truly believed in giving back to the community any way he could.
He is survived by his wife, children: Tammy (Bruce) Norrbom, Michael (Lori) Matzner, Lisa (Richard) Eaton, and Michelle (Greg) Stephens; 8 grandchildren: Derek (Rebecca) Norrbom, Daryl (Brie Darrnel) Norrbom, Shannon (Mike) Ascione, Christopher (Haley) Matzner, Zachery (Sarah Rutan) Stephens, Shelby Stephens, Aubrey Eaton, and Reese Eaton; and 1 great-grandchid: Kadence Ascione; and a brother-in-law, Jean Pierre Verdie.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law, Henriette and Pierre Verdie.
Services will be held Monday, June 1, 2015, at 10:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Father Dan Staublin officiating.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Saturday, May 30, 2015, from 3:00-8:00 PM, and Monday at St. Ambrose after 9:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary Service will be conducted by the Knights of Columbus Council 1252, Saturday, at 2:45 PM at Voss Chapel.
Inurnment will be at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery at 5:30 PM, Monday.
