Dorothy L. Turner went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2021, after a brief illness.
Dorothy was born in 1935 in Leslie County Kentucky to Retta Burns Smith and Green Burns. She graduated from Austin High School and married Burnam (Bud) Turner in 1954. They celebrated 60 years together before he preceded her in death.
They were successful entrepreneurs starting and selling three businesses before retiring and returning to Indiana to be nearer family. Their last endeavor, Aviation Sales, was Dorothy’s favorite as she enjoyed working with the pilots who flew in and out of the regional airport where they were the airport managers and fixed-based operators. Dorothy forged a special relationship with their co-pilot, Scott White, who she felt was one of her children. Bud always said Dorothy was the better manager and a people person.
When they lived in Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy belonged to Bethel Temple Assembly of God and volunteered driving cancer patients to treatment. Dorothy always cared for others in any way she could.
Dorothy is survived by daughters Berna Jones (Danny), and Rachael Turner (Kevin), Cecelia Nunner and son Paul Turner, brother, Mitchell Burns, granddaughters Jamie, Amy, Sarah Jones (Dee), Rori Davidson, Jackie and Natalie Nunner, Jessica White(Josh), Cindy Lavigne (Adam), and grandson Ronin Sizemore, her friend and caregiver, Jan Smith, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Sam Smith, son, Lance Corporal Stephan Turner, granddaughter, Amanda Jones, grandson, Nathan Turner, sister, Sheila Fraley, brother-in-law, Anderson (Red) Fraley, brother, Ben Couch (Patricia), and nephew Harvey Fraley.
Calling will be Friday, March 26, 2021, at Voss and Sons Funeral Service from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 1:30 p.m with Pastors Matt Price and Bill Barger officiating at Voss & Sons Funeral Service. Family and friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 1:30pm. Due to pandemic restrictions, we ask that visitors follow social distancing guidelines and masks are required.
Burial will be at Scottsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and to thank those who helped Dorothy during trying times, memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living, National Association to STOP Guardian Abuse, Shriners Burn Unit at Kosairs Children’s Hospital, or a charity of one’s choice through the funeral home.
