After I saw Grandpa in the hospital, I went to Mom & Dad's. While talking to Dad, he commented, "your grandpa is tough as nails." This really struck me and was something I thought about all the way back to Florida. The more I thought about this I realized how true a description it was, but not in the same way I initially perceived his toughness. It wasn't his ability to endure physical pain and suffering. It was his ability to block out the negative and find the positive in any and all situations. Grandpa's toughness was his positive, can-do attitude. When others were not sure if it could be done, he was quick to figure it out and to make it work. This quality was recognized by many. I can't count the number of friends and family members that commented, "your grandpa can fix anything" or "I wouldn't have anybody but your grandpa paint my vehicle". If Grandpa would have heard those compliments, I'm sure his response would be something like, "I just do the best I can with these two hands God gave me." He was the most humble person. Never taking credit himself, but always giving credit to God. We will all miss your positive, upbeat disposition, Grandpa.
