Eugene Leroy “Gene” Mahoney, 96 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Seymour Crossing.
He was born January 3, 1920, in Jackson, Michigan, the son of the late Orville and Mabel (Smith) Mahoney.
He married Elnora P. Owens on September 28, 1940, and she preceded him.
Mr. Mahoney was a Sergeant in the Army in Company C 530th MP Battalion in S.W. Asia – New Guinea and Luzon during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was a Radar Operator in charge of a unit of men. Radar was used for detecting enemy planes. He received the Asian-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Ribbon. After the Army, he worked as an Electrician. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by his son, Michael John (Nancy) Mahoney, a daughter-in-law, Charolette Mahoney, grandchildren: Coleen Moulton, Shaun Mahoney, Heather Grob, Jeffrey Mahoney and Bradley Mahoney; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora, his parents, two sons, Eugene Leroy Mahoney, Jr. and Larry Mahoney, a brother, Robert Mahoney and two sisters, Betty Kasting and Lilace Manning.
Funeral service will be at Voss Chapel on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Wednesday after 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
