Gary “Snake” Edmonds, 75, of North Vernon passed away Friday, September 27, 2024 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born May 23, 1949, in Seymour to the late Robert Quincy and Bernice (Humes) Edmonds.
Snake got his nickname when, as a child, he played for the Little League team the Blue Racers. His younger brother couldn’t say the full name of the team, so instead he called them the snakes. The nickname stayed with Gary throughout his life. Snake proudly served his country in the United States Army, then enjoyed a long career at Cummins, retiring in 2002. He married Vickie (Amis) Edmonds on May 28, 1998, and together they shared many trips to New Hampshire to visit Snake’s brother Raymond. Snake loved BINGO and going to the casinos, especially Rising Star Casino. He was proud of his restored 1981 El Camino and loved to go cruising in it. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 34 in Columbus, Indiana and attended Second United Methodist Church in North Vernon.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Vickie (Amis) Edmonds; daughters, Katina Edmonds and Tammy (Darion) Hubbert; sister, Roberta Kyle; brothers, Larry “Pimp Daddy” Edmonds and Art (Pam) Edmonds; sister-in-law, Linda Edmonds; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved toy poodle, Buddy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above; his infant son, Fred Allen Edmonds; brothers, Raymond Edmonds and Rock Edmonds; and brother-in-law, Frankie Kyle.
Funeral services for Snake will be Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral Home, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Bishop Johnnie Edwards of Abundant Harvest Ministries International will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Snake will be laid to rest with military honors at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Snake’s honor may be made out to his family, in the care of Vickie Edmonds, to help defray funeral expenses.
