Guy Frederick “Fred” Sciarra

March 23, 1932 - March 31, 2017

Guy Frederick “Fred” Sciarra, age 85, of Seymour, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at IU Methodist Hospital.
Fred was born March 23, 1932 in Brownstown to Carmin A. and Effie (Johnson) Sciarra.
He was a graduate of Shields High School class of 1950. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1987 as Superintendent of Postal Operations. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 655 and Seymour Elks Lodge #462.
He married Deborah Engleking in 1996 in Las Vegas, and she preceded him in death in 2010. He was previously married to Janet Arnell Sciarra.
He is survived by his daughter, Jana (Jim) Plump, his three sons, Mark (Tricia) Sciarra, Gregg (Ann) Sciarra, and Brett (Marla) Sciarra, two step-daughters, Erin (Jon) Ortman and Amy (Christina) Engleking and ten grandchildren, Eric (Elizabeth) Plump, Cory (Katy McElroy) Plump, Lauren (Craig Wright) Sciarra, Lindsay Sciarra, Marcus Sciarra, Braden Sciarra, Madeline Sciarra, Griffin Sciarra, Ethan Ortman, and Conner Ortman, and two great grandchildren, Asher and Owen Plump. Also surviving are a brother, John (Sheila) Sciarra, and three sisters, Helen Carol (Jerry) Branaman, Betty Jo (Gary) Stoops, and Brenda Flick. He is preceded in death by a brother, Carmin E. Sciarra and a sister, Mary Margaret Fenton.
A funeral prayer service will be held at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Monday, April 3 at 8 PM with Deacon Mike East officiating.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Monday from 3 PM until the time of the service.
Memorial checks may be written to St. Ambrose School or Boys and Girls Club.

I met Fred after joining Crossroads Gym when he was working there. He was a very engaging person and I was always able to have a conversation with him. We watched 9/11 unfold on TV live in the gym and wondered how that could happen. I visited Fred for the last time right before I went to Manila to get married. May God bless Fred.

I just want to say thanks for all the great times and great memories from my days in college with Mark. The family welcomed me into their home. Fred and Arnell were like family to me and lots of us. I had never known a family dynamic quite lilke the Sciarra's, but there was lots of love in that household. My sympathies. Thanks for everything your family did for me and lots of us trying to find our way in the world. You are all very special in my heart. I am sorry I cannot get to Seymour for the funeral.
