Mr. Harold Lewis Allen, Sr., 68, of Seymour, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born in Austin, on January 21, 1950, to the late Leonard and Lila (Mosley) Allen.
Funeral services will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday, April 13 at 11 am with Rev. Mike Shuler officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday from 4-8 pm and on Friday from 9 am until time of service.
He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the Army and Army National Guard, having served in Company C, 1st Battalion, 151st Infantry during the Vietnam War before being honorably discharged in July 1975. On August 21, 2000, he married Sherry L. Rutan, she survives. He spent his career in facilities maintenance before retiring from Aisin, USA in May 2016. His priority was his family and he was extremely proud to be known as “Papa”. He loved anything outdoors, working on classic cars and “fixing things”.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Allen; children, Harold L. “Peanut” Allen, Jr.; James D. (Hannah) Allen and Matthew C. (Samantha) Allen; grandchildren, Elijah Allen, Lilah Allen and Norah Allen; brother, James (Lynn) Allen; sisters, Rosemary (Clayton) White, JoAnn Wilson and Juanita Amos; father-in-law, Marvin Rutan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Michelle Robbins; and mother-in-law, Linda Rutan.
