Mr. Howard E. Owen, 96, of Seymour, formerly of Columbus, passed away Wednesday May 21, 2014 at Schneck Medical Center.
Born July 27, 1917 in Goodland, IN, he was the son of Harley and Matilda Ann (Taulman) Owen.
On December 31, 1938 in Scottsburg, IN, he married Wanda Jean Owen who preceded him in death.
Mr. Owen was a member of Uniontown Baptist Church. He retired in 1980 from Western Southern Insurance after 35 years of service. Mr. Owen proudly served his country as a World War II B 52 bomber pilot instructor and until his death was the oldest World War II veteran in Jackson County. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a member of the American Legion the Scottish Rite, and Freemasons.
He is survived by his daughter Margaret A. (John) Smith; grandchildren Amy D. (Rick) Malson, Susanne (Patrick) Meyer; great grandchildren Stephen (Megan) Hatton, Matthew Hatton, Abagail Grace Meyer, and Kathrine Maragret Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Harley Bernard Owen and Grover Owen; sister-in-law Dolly Owen; nephew Howard Ronnie (Janice) Owen; and nephew Kenny Owen and his companion of 13 years Suzi Galloway.
Funeral services will be held at Voss Chapel on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Larry Tingle officiating.
Burial will take place at UniontownCemeterywith full military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, all of Seymour.
Friends and family may visit on Friday May 23, 2014 at Voss Chapel from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday after 1:00 PM until the time of service.
