Irv was a good friend to our rocket club in Mitchell in the late 1960s. I was privileged to be able to interview him for an article on model rocket history not too many years ago - an experience I will always remember. His contributions to both the hobby and science of rocketry will long be remembered.

I was happy to know Irv. He was a guy who go out of his way to assist you. Once I was playing in a Seymour band and we landed our first job at the National Guard Armory at The Sylvania company picnic. I had an idea to use some flash pots onstage and didn't know where to buy them so we asked Irv for help. What he was able to come up with in just a couple hours was an amazing flash pot that was battery activated and used magnesium rocket fuel for the effect. The man had a certain genius about him.

Loved to listen to my Uncle Irv growing up, his voice was deep and had an endearing “twang”, it always made me feel at home. Special times with him, Aunt Carol and cousins swimming down at Hempstead Harbor Club and playing in backyard at Grandpa Wait’s. I know you were a very special brother to my Dad. You will be missed by all whom were lucky enough to know you. Love, Margie Wait Joyce
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Scott Dixon left a message on December 20, 2017:
There was a period in the 1970's when I would drive from Rantoul, IL to Seymour, IN almost every-other weekend to visit with Irv and eat Carol's wonderful chicken dinners. Though Irv is most well known for his rocketry endeavors, his true accomplishment in life was being a modest man who was always positive and rarely had a bad word to say about anyone or anything. In consequence, Irv was one of those "people" you looked up to and wanted to be similar to. Scott Dixon

So sorry to hear of Irv's passing - a true friend! When we had a model rocket club in high school, Irv stepped up to being our advisor and kept us from doing anything too foolish - like blowing our hands off! How cool to learn that he had an engine in the Smithsonian -- how proud you must be of this pioneer and trailblazer. He will be greatly missed. Art Hirsch
