Mr. James A. “Jimi” Shelton Jr., 64, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was born in Seymour on December 2, 1953 to the late James and Dorothea (Golden) Shelton Sr.
Funeral services will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Saturday, July 28 at 11 am with Revs. Andrew Currao and Joseph Barlau officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday from 4-8 pm and Saturday from 10 am until time of service.
On May 5, 1979 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, he married Janet Mellenbruch; she survives. He was employed by the city of Seymour at the Freeman Field Maintenance Building for many years before working as a Field Service Representative for Indiana American Water Company for 19 years. He was a very gentle man who loved his family, grandchildren and friends. Jim enjoyed playing music, especially when he played drums with the band Tailspin for many years. He always looked forward to eating breakfast with the Breakfast Club at the Townhouse Caf�. One of his greatest enjoyments was being a Papaw.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janet Shelton; children, Amanda (Matt) Hayes and Jeremy Shelton; grandchildren, Evy, Aria and Destiny; stepmother, Lil Shelton; siblings, Jerome Shelton, Deidre Shelton, Melvin Cherry, Raymond Brown, Robert Brown, Alethia Ramsey, Shirley Mann and Mary Brown; sisters-in-law, Linda (Rich) Steele and Marilyn Mellenbruch; and brother-in-law, David (Peg) Mellenbruch.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Blanche Maddex Smith; and siblings, Teresa Shelton, Gregory Mann, Marshall Brown and James Brown.

I remember when I first met Jimmy. He and Raymond Edmonds (my husband) were riding a bicycle built for 2. My sister and I had just moved to Seymour Indiana from Campton NH. He was a good man, always said hi and had a smile. I would see him everyday just about and drive by in the Seymour Water Truck. I have know him and Janet for a long time and it saddens me to see his American dream come to an end. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Seymour and the World has lost a gentle soul. Jimi was always so nice and friendly too ever one he came in contact with and left you with a sense of self worth and happiness. I seen Jimi many many times over the years due too his job with the city of Seymour and the Indiana American water company. He was always very professional but at the same time very happy go lucky and very personable. My condolences go out to his wife,kids,and family especially to his brother Jerome who is a friend of mine and is alot like Jimi. Rest In Peace Brother and GOD SPEED

I worked with Jim for 19 years. He was a great guy and friend. He always was there to help me when i got in a jam at work.You will be missed my friend! Prayers to his family.

Jim was the sweetest, kindest man ever!! I work at the Townhouse and I waited on him almost every day!! He was always so nice and funny!! I enjoyed serving him his lemonade or coffee and his bisquits and gravy. He will be missed!! My heart is sad to lose such a great guy!! Thoughts and prayers from all of us at the Townhouse cafe.

Condolences...Jimi and I were in same grade/class at Washington Elementary. His family was on my Tribune route when in Junior High School. Sad to know of his passing.
