James E Shelby left a message on July 29, 2020:
There a two teachers that I remember vividly to this day; Mr. Brock and Mr. Stahl. I consider both of these men to have help shaped my life in many ways. Mr. Brock was everything I've read here and more. I had the great honor of seeing and talking with him post-high school (before leaving Seymore) and it was always a great pleasure. He was a special person and the world could use more like him. I was truly saddened and he will be missed. God blessed us with Mr. Brock. James E. Shelby - Raleigh, NC

We were pleased to have Jim join our family when he married my niece, Janice. I enjoyed his Facebook posts with pictures of his family whom he dearly loved. My latest good times with Jim and Janice was last summer when they kindly took me with them to a family gathering in South Dakota. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Brian and I would like to say we are so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to be in the Automechanic Class taught by Mr. Brock. He gave me a rough way to go the first time I walked in the class and never let up all through the years. He was a great teacher and a great man. Last time we saw he and Janice , he immediately smiled and talked to us.This means so much when a teacher you had a long time ago remembers you. Brian also was in Automechanic Class . and whenever he saw Mr. Brock they would talk about things that happened in class. He also helped us out many times since we graduated. May God comfort you guys at this time. Brian and Yogi Fouts

We extend our sympathies to the Brock family and have you in our prayers at this difficult time. We enjoyed a number of visits with Jim over the years as he did various in-home jobs. He loved arriving to our jobs knowing he would have donuts in the morning to go with his coffee. That led to the news of the day and of course opinions. All in good nature of course. Jim and his good nature will be missed

To my dear Deputy Sister Janice and your family - we hate we cannot be with you in person to surround you with hugs right now. I know I didn't know Jim for long. but I enjoyed our talks while the three of us traveled to OES events. Reading through all of the tributes, it's clear he touched a lot of lives and had a positive impact on his family, students and community. I was so sad to hear of his passing. We don't know why his chair was ready now but we know where he is and know where to find him when the Golden chain is linked again. Peace and grace in these troubled times. Shannon #3

Could not have said it better Mr. Stahl. I had the pleasure of being a student of all three, Brock, Stahl and Horton. Mr. Brock gave me a nickname that I carry to this day and tell the story of why he gave it to me often, He lived a full life and truly added "life" to others.

Jan and family, We are so sorry for your loss. Jim was a special person to us for so many reasons. His parents were neighbors down the road from my family, and our families were active for many years at Central Christian. He was one of Mike's really GOOD high school teachers (in auto mechanics class) many years ago. A few years later, we were both blessed to have his children and even grandchildren as students in our classrooms. Since we both were teachers who served with Jan on SEA committees and bargaining teams, Jim enjoyed discussing education issues and hot topics with us. He was our Chimney Sweep for over 30 years (and even climbed around for us this past fall!) We have served together at church in so many capacities. It's always been a blessing to talk with Jim most Sundays and see that mischievous smile, and to often be the recipient of his humor & teasing! Makes me smile to think about the light and warmth he shared with so many people. And I loved playing piano for him when he sang. So many connections. We will miss having Jim Brock in our world. God bless the family - you are all in our prayers. Mary & Mike Sentz

Jon Cullen Stahl left a message on March 25, 2020:
To all family and friends of Jim Brock; I taught with Jim at Seymour High School for close to 13 years. We were both in the Industrial Arts Department and worked closely together in school and outside. We built homes in the summer along with Charles Horton. After both of us were out of teaching I had contact with Jim often through our similar business interests. The obituary regarding Jim’s interests and experiences was great. But I must say Jim had many talents and skills not mentioned. One of which was his relationship with young people in his high school classes. Jim had a deep and sincere interest in helping young people. His ability to handle a classroom that gave every young person the same value and still hold discipline was outstanding. I am sure that many from Seymour that were once students of a Jim, will say the same thing. In business, Jim was the same person. Kind, fair and honest. I will always think of Jim with high regards and will miss his sense of humor and smile. Jon Cullen Stahl
