In 1960 he married the love of his life Betty Joan Johnson, and she survives.
James was a member of Central Christian Church and was a member of both Washington No. 13 F.& A.P and Jackson Lodge No. 146 F.& A.P. He started his own excavating company in 1967. He could still be found to this day riding on the same backhoe. He left the excavating business and started over the road driving for Rose Acre Farms then going to NAPA over road driving. He finished out his career in 2009 with them. He enjoyed doing backhoe and dump truck work for family and friends until his passing.
James enjoyed showing off his pride and joy 1968 Charger. Jim and Betty are the original owners of the “Green Machine”. The car was a joy to the entire family from his children, grandchildren and his extend family. You could find them together at many car shows or passing out candy in a parade. He has many trophies to show how everyone loved his car.
Another passion was tinkering in his garage with his treasures. If he was not in the garage, he could be found out on his backhoe or tractor, chewing his Red Man tobacco, and doing the things he loved to do.
James never met a stranger. He always seen the good in everyone and brought a smile to you face. He was a loving and supporting husband, father, grandpa, and friend. He will be missed and loved.
