Janet Ruth Schlehuser Day, 86, of Richmond, Va. entered eternal rest during the early hours of April 2, 2018. She was surrounded by loving family who will greatly miss her. She is survived by W. Durbin C. Day, Jr., her beloved husband of 65 years; children, Chip Day (Tammy), Phil Day (Kay), and Nancy Koontz (Greg); 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are sisters-in- law, JoAnn Schlehuser and Helen Day Clark, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held April 14, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 N. Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229. Memorials may be made to the church or charity of choice.
Janet was born and raised in Jackson County, the daughter of Walter and Cora Dringenburg Schlehuser. She was a graduate of Cortland High School.
After marriage, she moved to Huntington, W. Va., where she and Durb raised their family for 43 years. She worked as a secretary at the Vocational Center in the LPN Dept. They then moved to Richmond to be near their children. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Huntington, W. Va. and Trinity Lutheran Church, in Richmond, Va.
Janet was an avid bridge player and snow skier, and she loved to exercise and take bus tours around the country. She touched everyone with her kindness and generous spirit. She was an angel on this earth and will be remembered fondly by all her family and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Orren and Burrl Schlehuser; sisters
Norma Burbrink, Carol Thompson, and infant Evelyn Schlehuser; and sister-in- law Dona Day Cooper.
