Jerry Dean Otte, 78, of Seymour, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at his home.
Jerry was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers. He retired from Cummins Engine Plant after 34 years of faithful service. He also was a farmer and owner of Red Barn Angus Farm and was a seed dealer with Asgrow, Osgold and Seed Consultants. Jerry served his country as a member of the Indiana Army National Guard. Jerry will also be remembered for being a highly active member of the community. He was a board member of Hamilton Township Conservation Club, a 4-H Council member, 4-H Beef Council member, 4-H Auction Committee member, American Angus Association member, Indiana Angus Association member, Southern Indiana Angus Association member, Hamilton Township Trustee, Jackson County Democrat Committee member, Bowling League member, St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers Dartball League, and Jackson Cattlemen Association member. Jerry loved traveling to multiple National Junior Angus Association shows with his grandchildren who he cherished deeply. Every year, you could find Jerry at the Jackson County Fair and the Indiana State Fair working the Cattlemen’s rib eye booth. He was also an Honorary FFA Member and a graduate of Cortland High School. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed spending his time showing cattle at the national level, cutting wood, and attending tractor pulls.
Jerry was born in 1943 to the late Raymond W. Otte and Evelyn (Behrman) Otte in Seymour.
On April 19, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Seymour, he married Monica “Pixie” Smith who preceded him in death on April 20, 2020.
He is survived by his children, Catherine (Rich) Fulton, Julie (Greg) Rieker, Patrick (Colleen) Otte, Monica Otte; grandchildren, Christoph (Erin), Zachary, Baron (Fiance, Elizabeth), Steven (Kelsie), Katarina (Jared), Derek, Garrett and Sarah (Michael); great-grandchildren, Whitley, Colton, Samuel, Panagiotis, Benjamin, Kendall, Mallory, Brayden, and one great-grandchild on the way; and brother, Don (Nancy) Otte.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Monica “Pixie” Otte, son, Nathaniel Otte, his parents, brother Michael Otte and sister Nelda Pitts.
The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Voss & Sons Funeral Service from 4-8pm.
Funeral services will be conducted by Voss and Sons Funeral Service at St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers at 10:30 with visitation prior starting at 9:30 with Pastor Steve Wood officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Borchers with full military graveside rites.
Memorials may be written to Jackson County 4H or St. Paul Lutheran Church Borchers Pre-School.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required as well as social distancing within the building. Cards and notes of condolence are most welcome.
