Mr. Jerry Vincent Taskey, 75 of Seymour, Indiana, passed on at 2:00 a.m., Sunday morning, January 25, 2015, with his family by his side.
He was born in Seymour, Indiana, the son of the late Glen Edward and Marie Zumhingst Taskey.
Jerry was a graduate of Shields High School, in Seymour, and after graduation he joined the United States Army and served his county from 1958 to 1962.
He then went to work for H. O. Canfield in Seymour for a few years and then to Cummins Engine Company, where he retired after 33 years of service in 2003.
Jerry was a very loving and caring husband and father. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #1925 for 42 years in which he served as former vice commander, Eagles Club for 30 years, Thunderbird Club, which he owns a 1956 Ford Thunderbird, and a member of the 40 & 8 Club. His main hobby was working on vehicles and as he would say: his pride and joy was restoration.
On October 27, 1962 he married Ida LaVerne Maschino in Four Corners.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years LaVerne, 2 children Jerrie Marie (Leland Huff) Dover, Terry Lee (Mindy) Taskey, 3 grandchildren Paul, Tabitha and Matthew, 5 great grand Braydon, Cailyn, Kyha, Gavin and Iziah, 2 sisters Glenna Rigsby and Regina Osborne and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Robert Edward Taskey and Edward Eugene Taskey in infancy.
Funeral service honoring Jerry’s life , will be held at Voss Chapel, on Wednesday, January 28th, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg officiating.
Friends may call at Voss Funeral Service, Voss Chapel at 316 N. Chestnut Street, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday after 10 a.m. until time of service
Burial will be at a later date, with full military graveside rites, by the V.F.W. Post 89, American Legion Post 1925, DAV, Korean and Vietnam Veterans all of Seymour.
Family asks that Memorials be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center or a charity of choice.
