I’m just now seeing this.....I played for Coach Goodman in 1973 at Maconaquah High School. We were 9-1 that year. Jeff Richey was our QB of a very high powered scoring offense. It was a great Team and a great year. One of the highlights of my life. Thanks, Coach

Our deepest sympathy to the Goodman Family. Our families were and will always remain a part of life’s special connections. Joe had an impact on many young lives in their most important developing years, but that impact was especially important on my life. Even though I tried to express that to him at different times, I could never put into words how much he impacted my life and the many kids that I later taught and coached. Joe, you were the “Coaches Coach”. Chris and Brenda Cameron

Patricia (Pattie to Joe) and I have years and years of fond memories of Joe. From our childhood years in elementary school, junior high, high school and college. We sorta all grew up together in Dugger. Joe was alway the one who made us smile, added humor to any situation, and we kew he was a true friend, even though often separated by time and distance. He brought happiness to those who had the opportunity to know him. We always admired his deep faith in God Joe and I had may fun times growing up, playing basketball in his drive way, watching his ponies, in sports as well as life guarding at Shakamak State Park. Years go by way too fast and we will all miss his smile, teasing and friendship. May god bless all of his family and friends who loved him and will miss him greatly. Mike and Pat Irons

Mrs. Goodman, I am so very sorry for your loss. What a great man he was, and will be remembered by many for years to come. Although there are several memories, my favorite is from Summer School Health Class my Freshman year, during which Coach Goodman asked me to make a poster board sized statistics chart for him. That 1 chart became 8, but it was fun, and I knew that he appreciated it. I know that the Coach is already in Heaven, putting his team together. I pray that you, Grant and Jenny will find peace in knowing that he is watching over all of you. Kathy Flinn
Jeff Anderson left a message on November 14, 2018:
I met Coach Goodman his first year at Seymour as an incoming freshman. He was a motivator. He saw the potential in people and had the psychology to bring out their best. His wife and son are fantastic people that make any community better. His spark and presence will be missed. Jeff Anderson
Keith Nance left a message on November 14, 2018:
Joe was the greatest proponent of the sport we all love so much. The impact he has had on the hundreds of young men that played for him and the hundreds of coaches that he has mentored will ensure that his legacy will live on forever. In my limited interactions with Coach Goodman he had a significant impact on my life and my philosophy of coaching. Put the players first, where they should be. Coach them, discipline them and mentor them with love. Joe was an outstanding man! Keith Nance
Kelly Murphy left a message on November 14, 2018:
It is with a heavy heart that I write this memory of Coach. I was a young head coach at a school not known for football. There was a knock on the door and Coach Goodman was at my house. He came in and we talked for what seemed like 2 hours. Most of the talk was about the Blue Spruce we had in our front yard. I spent a lot of time listening to coach tell his stories and I loved every minute of it. RIP my friend Kelly Murphy

Dan Ridlen left a message on November 13, 2018:
Mr. Goodman was the head football coach at Seymour when I played on the JV team. He had a discipline about him that quickly earned my respect. He once said to me after I got a short summer haircut "You almost look good." He was probably right about that.
The Prouts left a message on November 13, 2018:
I just found this. Dot and I are so sorry. I know what I went through when my Father passed many years ago. It is so hard to accept. Your Dad always carried a briefcase around school just like mine. I ask him once what was in it. We opened them . Mine was full of music and his was full of Football plays. He loved his job just like he loved his family.
