Joel Nevin O'Neal

Mr. Joel Nevin O’Neal, 53, of Seymour, passed away August 18, 2014 in Seymour.

Joel was born on November 18, 1960 in Columbus, IN, he was the son of Darrel M. and Creta (Weikert) O’Neal and Stepmother, June (Freeman) O’Neal.

On July 2, 1983, at the First Church of the Nazarene, he married the love of his life, Rhonda Fay (O’Neal) who survives.

Joel graduated from Ivy Tech with a business degree, he was vice president of OAS, Inc at Freeman Field. He was a member of Seymour Christian Church and their Praise Team and was also a Deacon there. He was a member of ASPRS; Certification of Photogrammetry.

He is survived by his Father Darrel M. O’Neal, Wife Rhonda and children; Nicklaus Nevin (Amelia) O’Neal and Arron Clay O’Neal and fiancÃ© Kena Brown, one grandchild; Madelayne Alexis O’Neal, brother; John (Brenda) O’Neal and sister Amy Ogilvie (Cary Phillips), and Mother in Law Linda O’Neal.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Creta Pearl Weikert, Step mother, Vera June Freeman, Paternal Grandparents; Morton O’Neal and Inez O’Neal, Maternal Grandparents; William Phillip Weikert and Helen Weikert.

Funeral services will be held at Seymour Christian Church Friday August 22, 2014 at 11AM with Rev. Bill Lockman and Rev. Rick Wilson officiating.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery immediately following service with a Voss Dove release.

Friends may call at Seymour Christian Church on Thursday August 21, from 3PM to 8PM and also Friday after 9AM until time of service.

Memorials may be written to Seymour Christian Church.

I have nothing but the fondest memories of Joel. His son Nick and I went to elementary school together, and he was involved with our Cub Scout troop and coached soccer along with my dad. In recent years, we reconnected via Facebook and stayed in touch. I'll miss him. He was a great guy.

My heart is broken - my life long best friend has went home to Jesus. Words can only begin to express what this man meant to me and my family. He is and was a disciple of God. Smile, God loves and so do I. May God continue to hold his family in his hands.

I share your grief and offer my prayers. I have had business dealings with Joel a number of times over the course of the last 20 years or so, and he was always such a friendly, honest, and positive person. I know such a young and vibrant member of your family will be sorely missed. I don't know if this will help to ease anyone's pain, but as a fellow motorcycle enthusiast myself, I think Joel would like for you all to remember that he died doing something he loved. Nick, Arron and Madelayne your dad and grandfather was so proud of you. He love you so much. He got so much joy seeing you play in the praise team at church and serving the Lord. Madelayne your grandpa was so in love with you. He was so protective of you and prayed for you everyday. You are the apple of his eye. You brought so much joy in his life. Joel's legacy will live on in his boys and granddaughter.

I am sorry for your loss. I don't know the family personally but I know how it feels to lose a loved one. Prayer and supplication will help you to cope with your loss. God also provides comfort from the scriptures and from people who care. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) May your family experience peace and know that your loved one is in the best hands possible. (Revelation 21:4).
