Mr. John Brian Abel, 58, of Freetown, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Seymour Crossing. He was born in Seymour to the late George W. and Mary (Kinnick) Abel.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday, September 19 from 5-7 pm.
He was a graduate of Brownstown High School, class of 1979. John loved to be outside hunting and fishing. He enjoyed stock car racing and playing pool. He was a mechanic who could fix anything.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie (Ryan) Haddan; grandson, Maxwell John Ross Haddan; brothers, Richard (Sherry) Abel, Robert (Barbara) Abel, James (Diana) Abel; sister, Barbara J. Streight.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be written to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.

My family is gonna miss having John as our friend and neighbor. He would always make me a batch of fudge when we gave him mushrooms. He made the best fudge. He was just a great person. Rest in peace now John.

Condolences to the family. John was a good friend of 29 years starting when I moved to the area in 1990. We worked together for most of those years. He was quite the analytical thinker and always finding solutions to challenging problems. I learned significantly from John, from philosophical perspectives to improving woodsman skills. I will miss John terribly and he will always hold a special place within my heart. - Rick Lyon

Condolences to all the family! John was such a wonderful school mate and friend even after graduation. He was so funny and easy to be around. He was what I thought of as an all around good guy. I will never forget that when Mike and I brought our new born daughter Mandy Jane home from the hospital he was right there and was the first to hold her as a baby from our house. It ticked us so to think he cared enough to stop in and see our pride and joy :) I know he loves many and he loved well. He had many wonderful traits... remember those and that great smile, it will keep you through the hardest of days. Much Prayers to each family member and loved ones and friends!
