Marty, I'm very sorry for your loss. I know how close you and your dad were. Joe and Ruth were each someone incredibly special. They were always good to me and I loved being around them. Your dad was a great guy and genuinely good human being. I ran into him once when I was back home a long time ago at the old KMart there in town. My mom's old Chrysler wouldn't start (of course) and he recognized us out in the parking lot. We all exchanged pleasantries for a while and he got us up and running again.
I was back in the area last June and drove down to Seymour one afternoon. Taking the chance that he'd be home, I pulled into the driveway and knocked on the side door - no answer. Knocked on the front door and he opened it. We hung out and talked for about an hour. He was still sharp and it was a real pleasure to see him.
Now he's in a place filled with light and love, catching up with people he hasn't seen in a long time. I am happy for him but my heart is heavy for you and your loss. You were truly blessed to have him as your father.
