Joye I. Spurgeon, 89, of Seymour, passed away on August 11, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center.
She was born in 1932, daughter of the late Elijah Hankins Jr. and Hattie M. Eglen Hankins in Brownstown.
On August 18, 1956, she married Richard E. Spurgeon in Seymour and he precedes her in death.
Joye was a member of The Point in Seymour. She loved to spend time watching her favorite Hallmark movies, going out to eat, butter pecan ice cream, going for long walks and she had to have cheese with every meal. Joye retired from JC Penney after 18 years of dedicated service in the receiving department. She also worked at the former Paris Style of Seymour. She enjoyed the company of others and listening to their stories but more than anything in the world, she loved her nieces and nephews.
Joye was part of a large family network and is survived by her brothers and sisters in law, Bob (Patty)Nicholson, Charlene Gray, Jim (Phyllis) Spurgeon, Bob (Francie) Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.
Joye is preceded in death by her beloved husband; infant daughter Debra J.; parents; brothers, John D. Haley, Earl Hankins and Sanford Hankins;
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021, from 11-1 at Voss Chapel.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021, at 1pm at Voss Chapel.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Memorials may be written to American Heart Association, National Kidney Foundation, or the Jackson County Humane Society.
