Mrs. Judith “Judy” Ann Carmer, 76, of Seymour, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Schneck Medical Center. She was born in 1942 in Seymour, to the late Lawrence and Martha (Elsner) French. Funeral Mass will be conducted by Voss and Sons Funeral Service at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 13, at 10 am with Father Dan Staublin assisted by Deacon Mike East. Burial will follow at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery in Four Corners, near her parents, brother and extended family.
Family and friends may call at Voss and Sons Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 12 from 4 to 8 pm and at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday after 9 am until time of Mass. The Daughters of Isabella will recite the Rosary at 3:30 pm Tuesday.
Judy married the love of her life, Jerry Carmer, on October 12, 1963, at St. Ambrose in Seymour, Indiana. She was the light of his world. She was a Tax Preparer and owner of Carmer Tax Service and hundreds of people were blessed with her smile and shining light each year. Many of those customers became life long friends. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, St. Vincent dePaul Society and many church organizations. She was a music lover, enjoyed singing with the church choir throughout the years and could often be found jamming to her favorite songs, at full volume. She was a bookkeeper for many different organizations and groups. Judy’s faith was the biggest part of her and her rosaries were never far away. She never met a stranger and touched each and every person who had the joy of meeting her. She enjoyed card games, especially Euchre, and smiled sweetly as she won hand after hand. Her daughters were raised watching her constantly put others first, whether friends, family or complete strangers. She would give the shirt off of her back and never ask for anything in return. Her giving spirit was evident in her St. Vincent dePaul work and she personally visited with those in need. Her daughters also learned hard work from both Judy and Martha and spent numerous hours working in gardens and canning summers delights, all while listening to fantastic music. She lived for her family and was overjoyed being “Mamaw.” She was not only a mother to her three daughters, but to all of their friends through the years. She always had time to listen and never judged. Some of her favorite days were spent shopping with her girls and granddaughters and she loved visiting with “her Jesse.”
She will be deeply missed by her children, Julie (Carvin) Otte, JoAnna Garrett and Jane (Erin) Hays; her baby brother, whom she adored and spoiled, Lawrence (Terri) French; sister-in-law, but sister in spirit, Ingrid French; grandchildren, Myka Wetzel, her “Rosebud” Cassandra (Alex) Tapia, Emerald (Matt Robinson) Hays, Jesse Garrett (Madyson Johnson), Grace Otte and Millie Hays; great grandchildren Remi and Ryan, Gabe, Izabella and Oliver; and “adopted grandson” Michael Hupp. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and hero Irvin Leo French and grandson Isaac Otte. Memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Society or charity of choice through Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
