Great example and contributor to his profession!
You all have been on my mind & in my prayers ever since I heard. I feel blessed to have known Larry. Having laid my dad to rest in July & the ever present loss with me, I think I know how you feel. This death stuff is tough, but we celebrate the promise of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord!!! May the strength & comfort of God's Holy Spirit reside in you all as you begin a new chapter of your lives. Blessings & Peace be yours!

(btw Brandon: Brett & I had planned to come to the visitation together, but I got busy & missed the date & time. So sorry!!!)
Oh My Gosh
It’s so unfair.
Each year the outcome of the clash is up in the air.
Bo and Woody looking on from afar.
Each trying his best to tip the table and make a new star.
But now its all changed and not for the better.
Now Woody has a giant joining the fray.
A Buckeye from birth with a degree from “THE” OSU.
A true fan who never uttered the words M Go Blue.
I know I’ll be watching the annual showdown.
Anxious as always for the maize and the blue.
And each time the Buckeyes end up on top.
There always will be a brand-new question.
Did Dr. Sunbury have a role in creating my depression?
A Sad Wolverine
Dr. Sunbury was one of my honorary fathers and a wonderful mentor. Larry was one of the most generous and forbearing veterinary professionals on this earth. He gave me and other greenhorns the James Herriot experience Jackson County style. Not only was he a skilled and compassionate practitioner across multiple species, he made it look easy and he brought fun and fortitude to even the most trying of potential catastrophes. He was a caring human being who served his community on so many levels and in so many ways. What an excellent example he set for all of us. A wonderful husband, doting parent and grandparent, loyal friend and colleague…we miss him.

Dr Sunbury was a truly good human being. I am blessed to have known him.

A few memories...
Dr. Sunbury was one of the first adults I knew outside my immediate family ... he made regular appearances in my childhood, from my very earliest memories. He was always smiling, laughing or joking! He was The Veterinarian -- the expert of all experts -- when it came to caring for and treating animals.
I recall going with my mother and grandparents to visit his old office (where Cooper Concrete stands today) with various pets, usually dogs, over the years. I can remember the waiting area, and I believe there were framed posters of all the many dog breeds on the walls -- it always was interesting to study the images and imagine what each dog would be like if I could meet a representative of each breed!
Dr. Sunbury also made regular visits to our farm to care for my grandpa's (Omer H. Trimpe) polled Hereford beef cows. Seeing his pickup truck -- with the classic storage lockers on the bed of the truck -- in our barnyard was a thing in those days. For years, I assumed all vets treated farm animals, as well as dogs and cats -- it wasn't until I was much older that I realized most vets specialized in small-animal care. Today, large-animal/livestock vets are in high demand in many parts of the United States.
I also remember Dr. Sunbury bringing his family out to our farm to fish in the summer on a few occasions, and he was a fixture in the Boys Scouts booth at the Oktoberfest downtown each fall.
Today, all these years later, the practice he established at the Seymour Animal Hospital (SAH) continues to thrive, and my mother seems to be there to sort out an animal issue of one kind or another nearly every week. Her Beau the Basset Hound, in particular, is a "frequent flyer" at SAH.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to Dr. Sunbury's wife, children and grandchildren -- he was a one-of-a-kind veterinarian, who knew as much or more about how to get along with people as he did how to care for their animals. He left a wonderful legacy.

We grew up on Western Pkwy. with the Sunburys. He always took care of all our animals. He and Joanne were the most giving family. Never a dull time on Western Pkwy. We will miss u Larry. GOD gained an angel!:disappointed_relieved::heart::pray::pray:
Dear Sunbury Family, Connie and I are saddened to hear of Doc's passing. We always looked upon him with fondness, respect and admiration. Through Rotary, Larry was a mentor to me, maybe unknowingly, as I observed his wit and leadership from the President's podium. We will most certainly miss him. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. As we are wintering in Florida, we will be with you in spirit in the coming days.

A Wonderful Man . Remember calling him at home, no matter the time or day and he would always help us with one of our pets !
Dr Sunbury was always a gentle and compassionate vet for our animals and a great family man. I’m sure his family will miss him dearly but they have many memories to comfort them.
Thoughts and prayers for the Sunbury family. When we were kids, we would leave the vet office feeling like we had the greatest dog in the world! We also felt pretty good about ourselves after the vet visit. What a wonderful trait he had of using kindness and making everyone feel a sense of value and worth!

Larry, you were always so kind and an inspiration to Joanne's many cousins - including me. We will always think of you with your great smile and comforting "giggle". We're sure that you and Joanne's late brother Carl - whom you guided into becoming a vet - will be enjoying many a Buckeyes football game from your front-row seats in Heaven.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Sunbury''s passing. I remember him coming to our house and taking care of our cows, ponies, dogs and cats. My last interaction with him was when my mom' dog and my dog fought and my dog got the worst of it. He met me in his office on a Sunday afternoon, to sew her up. He was a great vet, and a very caring man. I believe God has a very special place in heaven for Veterinarians. My thoughts and prayers for the family!
My condolences to the entire Sunbury family. Doc Sunbury was a great vet! I remember back in the day his family had an unusual Afghan dog. RIP, Doc.

I have so many vivid memories of Larry in Crestview, at The First United Methodist Church, as our Veterinarian through the years and most of all, as an outstanding genuine family man. Prayers to the family ! Dog Heaven gained a human angel !!
So many stories with Larry and my animals thru the years. Once when our dog, Max, tried to lick the inside of a can he found outside, his tongue Got caught between the lid (that was only half off) and the rim. It was around 10 at night and i called Larry who lived across Crestview from us and he said bring him over. The lid was cutting into his tongue but Larry just lovingly held Max and pulled the lid away from his mouth/tongue. He was the kindest man ever!! Will be sadly missed by many. Prayers and comfort for the family.
Dr. Sunbury always pleasant to be around, he had a way of making people feel special, he never seemed hurried or tried to end a conversation quickly. He will truly missed by many .
As a child growing up and around Larry Sunbury I always anticipated w a good feeling time spent in his presence. A great and ready laugh that was reassuring even in times of stress(he was a leader in my scout troop!) He was an adult who modeled what it was to be a faithful husband,Father and friend. As a vet he had few of any rivals. Rest well good doctor!
So many memories... our backyard sorta camp out, listening to your dad’s laugh when we did silly things (which was often) hearing him call one of you guys from the front door. He will definitely be missed greatly. Prayers for you all.
Prayers to his family, Dr Sunbury was a wonderful man, a kind and emphatic veterinarian to both his clients and their pets, a individual who put others first with a giving kindness and heart.
Thanks for being a pillar of Seymour and a role model for us kids. You made growing up in Seymour a great experience.
Will miss you Doc

Our sympathy, he was a wonderful man. We laughed together recently remembering when I sewed up a ruptured baby pig years ago and after next farm visit he told me he saw my initials on one of the pigs!! Will be missed by so many people.
Most favorite memory; as he and I have the same love for our OSU Buckeyes, him handing me a Buckeye at an IU game! Still have that buckeye!! You always could count on a kind greeting whenever, wherever you met he & Miss Jo! My condolences to a wonderful family!

Doc Sunbury was a great man and leader and dear friend to my late father Robert Foster. I will always treasure the many scouting events and church memories. I've never met a more honorable person. Rest in Peace.
