Lois Arlene Buck Boone went to her eternal home on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, in Seymour, Indiana. She was born to Ivan and Vera (Moseley) Buck on June 13, 1926, in LaPorte City, Iowa, the second born of five children. Instilled in her were the values of: faith, family, and farm. Lois loved to learn and teach. She graduated from LaPorte City High School in 1942 and from Indiana Wesleyan University (formerly Marion College) in 1949 where she earned her teaching degree. She received a Master’s Degree from the University of Kansas in 1965. During her teaching career she taught: in Iowa (in a one room school house), Illinois, Wyoming, and Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She served with the Wesleyan Gospel Corps in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico from 1966-1968; later teaching at the University of Puerto Rico Humacao for 12 years. After marrying Wendell Boone in 1980 she taught at the University of Wisconsin Center System, Baraboo/Sauk County College Program Oxford Federal Prison, retiring in 1990. She lived in Reedsburg and Stone Lake, WI for the past 42 years.
Lois was not one to sit on the sidelines. She was the Wisconsin Director of Wesleyan Women and began organizing women’s retreats. She hosted several meetings of Christian Women’s Club, and was part of the Gideon’s Auxiliary, as well as Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. Among her hobbies were: reading, gardening, cooking, and baking, and Bible studies. Throughout Lois’ long life she always trusted in the Lord as her Savior and Guide. A daily part of her schedule was reading the Scriptures with Wendell and prayer.
She is survived by her husband Wendell Boone; stepdaughters: Lynda Richey (Jeff) and Jillene Anderson (David), brothers: Russell (Carole) and Walter Buck, brother-in-law Marvin Yarrington; grandchildren: Jennifer Compton, Jeremy Richey, Gretchen Anderson, Justin Richey, and Kirsten Hayes, 7 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Marlys Buck and JoAnn Yarrington. Wendell, Lynda, and Jill are indebted to the extended Hayward/Stone Lake family for the care they provided for Lois and Wendell during her long illness.
Visitation for Lois will be Saturday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. with the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Voss & Sons Funeral Home in Seymour, Indiana. A graveside service and committal will be held in LaPorte City, Iowa on Monday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Westview Cemetery. A memorial service will take place at the Wesleyan Church in Hayward, Wisconsin at a later date.
