Martha L. McIntire 82 of Seymour, IN passed away on December 31, 2021, at the Lutheran Community Home.
Martha was born in 1939 in Hayden, IN to the late John A. Short and Elizabeth L. Kirkham Short. In 1958 at First Baptist Church in Seymour she married William A. McIntire and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Martha has lived in Seymour since 1942 and graduated from Shields High School in 1957. She was a member of First Baptist Church over 50 years where she was a choir member, board member, and Sunday School teacher. Martha was also very active in the community where she was a member of the Friends in Christ Club, member of the Friends and Neighbors Home Ec. Club, President of the Emerson School PTA, played and coached girls’ softball, and helped organize Little League for girls in Seymour. She was also a member of the Seymour School Board for twenty years. Martha was a former secretary at Cummins and Arvin’s. She also worked as a tutor and library aide at Seymour High School. She was the administrative assistant to several Mayors for the City of Seymour where she retired as Director of Community Development. She helped organize Recycle to Ride Transportation and was a member of the Seymour Octoberfest Board for twenty-nine years, serving as chairman for eight years. Martha was also a graduate of Jackson County Leadership, and member of Jackson County Visitor Board for twenty years, former member of Seymour Main Street, Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, and a member of Friends of the Library. Martha was a recipient of the Citizen of the Year award in 2003 by the Seymour Chamber of Commerce, Sons of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Medal, and the Lieutenant Governors 2015 Hoosier Hospitality Award.
She is survived by her children; Dave N. (Pam) McIntire, Jeanne A. (Curt) Nichols, Linda K. (Craig) Moore, Steve D. (Kristy) McIntire, and Tracy J. (Jim) Rickert, grandchildren; Bill (Ally) McIntire, Chris (Mallory) McIntire, Erin (Andy) Barker, Brianne (Jason) Roll, Spencer (Alison Collins) Nichols, Natalie (Parker) Wiethoff, Chad (Madeleine) Moore, Nate McIntire, Benjamin McIntire, Abigail McIntire, JT Rickert, and Dan Rickert, 11 great grandchildren, and sister Marita K. (Glen) Douglas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson Drew Nichols, and sister Phyllis E. Henderson Heath.
Visitation for Martha will be held at Voss and Sons Funeral Service on Tuesday January 4, 2022, from 4-7 pm and on Wednesday January 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church from 10-11 am. Services will be held on Wednesday January 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Jeremy Myers officiating.
