Michael L. Mathis, 65, of Seymour passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at I.U. Health, Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Scottsburg, Indiana on April 28, 1955, the son of the late Joseph “Joe” Mathis and Roselena (Hall) Mathis.
Michael was a member of Cornerstone Community Church of Seymour. He loved his family and had numerous friends and will be greatly missed by all. Michael just enjoyed life and had many interests; some being fishing, hunting, woodworking, and a passion for cooking. His favorite pastime was preparing and tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. He absolutely loved spending time outside.
After graduating from Seymour High School, he married Jennifer “Jenny” (Foster) on April 17, 1979. He always provided for his family and retired from Brown Hill Nursery.
Michael leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Jenny; 3 daughters, Elizabeth (Sam) Markel, Mandi-Jo Mathis, Sarah Smith; brother, Ronald (Linda) Mathis; sister, Patricia Mathis; 5 grandchildren, Tyler Connors, Alexis Markel, Cameron Markel, Clayton “Boo” Smith, and Mackenzie Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Jillian Mathis-Knotts; and two brothers, Thomas Mathis, and Robert Mathis.
The funeral service will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Johnnie Spivey officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview.
Visitation will be at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday, July 24, 2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday after 12:30 p.m. until time of service. (Family and friends are required to wear mask for visitation and service for the protection of our staff and our community).
Memorials may be designated to the charity of choice in care of Voss & Sons Funeral, Crematory and Monument Services, 316 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour.
