Michael Sullivan

February 8, 1957 - May 29, 2020

Mr. Michael Robert Sullivan. 63, of Hayden, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 at his home. He was born in Seymour to the late Robert and Clara (Barnthouse) Sullivan.
He graduated from Jennings County High School, class of 1975. He enjoyed fishing, racing, watching IU basketball and old Westerns. He could most often be found running around Hayden with his buddies. Mike had a great personality and was always happy to help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed spending his time with his grandsons, great-grandson and his great nieces and nephews.
Mike was a tool and die maker by trade and had worked at several local businesses over the years. His most recent was with Quality Mold and Engineering in North Vernon. Prior to that, he worked for SIMCO and Decatur Mold in North Vernon and National Machine in Westport. In his early years, he drove a semi for the old Big Blue Store in Seymour.
Mike will be greatly missed by his daughters, Julie (Shad) James and Beth Sullivan; son, Ryan (Brian Purtlebaugh) Sullivan; grandsons, Logan (Autumn Massie) James, Colton James; great-grandson, Camden James; beloved siblings, Pat (Michele) Sullivan, Penny Sullivan, Susie (John) Barlow, Paul (Cheyenne Gilpin) Sullivan, Robin Sullivan; stepmother, Kaye Sullivan as well as several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Harry and Helen Barnthouse; and paternal grandparents, Conrad and Mildred Sullivan.
Memorials may be written to the Hayden Historical Museum, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service or directly. Mike enjoyed helping out and volunteering at the old gas station.
All arrangements were entrusted to the care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

I am a part of the Sullivan family as Conrad and Mildred Sullivan were my Aunt & Uncle and they raised me from when I was very young.. My kids grew up with Mike and his brothers and sisters. Mike was a very likeable guy and we enjoyed being around him. Our prayers are with all the family.

Haven't seen a lot of Mike in a long time we worked in the tool trade not at the same place we were friends from grade school to he was little older I'm sure he will be missed proud to call him my friend. Fly high my friend I'll see you on the other side. Prayers sent out to family and friends!

My heart broke this morning when I heard that Sully had passed. In the past month I was lucky enough to get to sit by a fire and roast hot dogs with Sully and my dad. I also saw him when I was in Hayden several times. He was a dear friend of my dad's and I can recall many good times they had together and many good times I had with him also. Prayers for you Julie, Beth, and Ryan. Your father was a great man, and we will always remember him and smile. May God be with you during this difficult time and many prayers for peace, healing, and comfort.

Although I didn't know Mike that well, I've always remembered him as gentle and quiet. My condolences to his family.

So many memories of Mike.... from when I used to babysit the kids, to being his nurse, and for always being able to call him friend. I can not express how very sad my heart is today. The last time I saw him, he drove by and just shook his finger at me and smiled his big smile.... that’s how I will always remember him. Always.

Mike always had something ornery to say to me. We loved to tease each other!! He was a pistol that I loved dearly. Rest in peace my dear friend!! Hugs and prayers to all the family!!

It’s hard to put into words all that fills my heart about my cousin Mike. His talents were amazing, and the beautiful wooden rocking chairs he made for the little ones are works of art. He used to tune up my car when I would visit so I could save a few dollars. And of course we had a few party nights. A humble man, with twinkling eyes and a great smile, he will be missed by all of his cousins not to mention his immediate family. Cath

So sad to see this post. To the entire Sullivan family I send my heartfelt condolences. My stories of your family could fill a book, so I’ll just concur that Mike, will be missed by many! So glad Ryan took him to see Robin late last summer! I know Ryan enjoyed it as I’m sure did both Robin and Mike. Peace be with your family in this tome of grief.
