Mr. Michael “Mike” Tech Jordan, 75, of Seymour passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Schneck Medical Center. He was born in Seymour to the late Kes and Betty Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Monday, September 9 at 11 am with Rev. Michael Riggins officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military honors provided by Military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service Sunday from 1-5 pm and Monday from 10 am until time of service.
Mike was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. On November 15, 1968, he married Linda Butler; she survives. Mike retired after 40 years of service from the Indiana National Guard. Mike received the “Sagamore of the Wabash” award, given to those who have rendered distinguished service to the state, from Governors Orr, Bayh, and Kernan. He served on the state Water Pollution Control Board for 15 years, 12 of those years as Chairman. A former employee of Fidelity Federal and Home Federal, Mike was owner of Jordan Appraisal Group, providing residential appraisals for local lenders. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mike served the City of Seymour as District 5 Councilman for 32 years, President of the Common Council for 20 years and was the only President of the Seymour Redevelopment Commission. In addition, he served on numerous boards throughout our community including Works & Plan Commission, Freeman Army Airfield Museum Board, Jackson County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Girls, Inc. He was also a member of American Legion, Seymour Elks Lodge and the Columbia Club. Mayor Craig Luedeman proudly proclaimed December 12, 2011 as Michael T. Jordan Day for his many years of service to his family, Seymour, state of Indiana and the nation.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda Butler Jordan; sons, Joel married to Rachele and Brent married to Rev. Shellie Riggs; grandchildren, Gabriel and Casey Jordan, Blake and Allison Hopkins; sister, Jane married to Mike Graham; sister-in-law, Susie married to Terry Shirley; brother-in-law, Larry Butler; nieces, Lisa (Jeff) Richart, Amy Spence, Bridget Shirley, Kelly Weisenberger, Kristin (Butler) Drake; nephews, Chris Jordan, Josh Graham, Justin Graham, Baron Shirley as well as several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ted Jordan.
Memorials may be written to Don and Dana Meyers Cancer Center, Freeman Field Airfield Museum or First Presbyterian Youth, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.

Nikki and I send our deepest sympathies. It was an honor to know Mike, and I always appreciated the times we could share "tall tales" of life in the military. He was one of the first to welcome me to the community when I arrived and will always have a special place in my heart. Prayers out to Brent and his family. Let your Ivy Tech Community College family know if we can help in any way.

My heart felt sympathies to the family. Mike was a good man and wonderful mentor. A great loss to our nation.

I want to offer my condolences to the family of Mike. He will be missed. I first met Mike over 45 years ago while we both served in The Indiana National Guard. He was always very responsible and caring about the functions he needed to perform. While he served in the Food Service arena for the Guard, he and I had many discussions regarding same. After our retirement I would occasionally see him at the Columbia Club or at Barnes & Noble in Indianapolis and we would have friendly chats and update each other on our lifes's activities. He also asissted us at Camp Atterbury by involving the Seymour Air Museum in our Camp Atterbury "Open House" and he personally attended as well. So sad for Mike Jordan’s family. He gave so much to Seymour and Jackson County. I know my father, Ed Elsner, had great respect for Mike. It was very important to my Dad that people give back to the community. Mike certainly did give back in so many ways.

Mike and Linda were so kind to me when I first moved back home a few years ago and started to go to the Presbyterian Church. It meant a lot to me. Mike was a truly good man. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. Peace and love to Linda and family.

Mike gave our family an amazing gift in the planning of the military funeral for my Dad, Maj Gen John N Owens. We are forever grateful for his kindness & service to our Dad!

Linda and family, Our sympathies, thoughts, and prayers go out to each of you. Mike will be sorely missed. His dedication, leadership and support as president of the Jackson County Public Defender Board was exceeded only by his dedication, love, and pride for his family. Mike was the model of a true public servant, traits that are sorely missing from many elected officials today. Seymour and Jackson County has lost one of its greatest citizens and should be thankful for the many years of wise and dedicated service that Mike provided.
