Mr. Norm “Porky” Thomas, Jr. 69 of Seymour passed away Sunday at home with his family all gathered by his side and under the caring staff of Schneck Medical Center.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 20, 1945 the son of the late Norman R. Thomas, Sr. and Evelyn Mae (Tabor) Thomas.
Norm was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour. He retired from the Bartholomew County Highway Department after 27 years of service. He stayed busy always helping others and was very active in the Sons of the American Legion and past Governor of the Moose lodge in Columbus, Indiana #398. Norm served as Governor of the Moose Lodge in 1988.
Norm enjoyed watching “Nascar” and was a major Tony Stewart fan. He always cheered for Tony Stewart to beat Jeff Gordon. He had great love for his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
On October 9, 1971 he married Brenda Lou Greene, who passed away November 29, 2000. He then met Mary Frances Bryant and they married in Brownstown on October 26, 2002.
Norm is survived by his wife of 12 wonderful years Mary, children Brian Scott (Destine) Alexander, Dusty (Dan) Pardieck, step children Sharon (Dan) Bolton, Melissa (Scott) Waggoner, and Steven Dale (Kim) Lucas, his best friend and pet “Gizmo”, grandchildren Kayla Pardieck, Jake Pardieck and Morgan Alexander, step grandchildren Andrew, Corey and Dylan Quick, Brandi and Danielle Bennett, Levi Sisson, Steven, Christopher, Jessica and Deven Lucas.
Funeral service will be at Voss Chapel on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Father Dan Staublin officiating.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday after 12 noon until time of service.
Graveside service will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus at 2:30 p.m.
Family asks that memorials be designated to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
There will be a rosary service at Voss Chapel on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. and a Moose Lodge service at 7:45 p.m.
