Paul E. Caplinger, 85, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Seymour Crossing. He was born in Ripley County to the late Emmett W. “Cap” and Hettie B. (Shanks) Caplinger.

Funeral Services will be held at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Monday, October 28 at 1 pm with Rev. Joel Burbrink officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Monday from 11 am until time of service.

Paul’s best day ever was May 1, 1958, in Alameda, Texas, he married Bobbie J. (Lakins) Caplinger; she survives. He was most proud of Bobbie and the 61 years they spent together.

Mr. Caplinger was a member of the Living Word Baptist. He worked at Seymour High School from 1959-1961 and then Emerson Elementary from 1961-1973. He was the owner of Caplinger Cleaning. Paul was employed for over 35 years as a custodian at both the First Church of the Nazarene and Central Christian Church where he retired in 1999. He enjoyed parachute jumping, playing golf and watching Western movies, especially with his favorite actor, John Wayne.

Paul’s best advice to everyone was “Love Jesus and be faithful to the Lord”.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Schramm; grandchildren, Chelsey Schramm, Maclain Schramm, Whitney Caplinger; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Sheila Harshbarger; brothers, William E. Caplinger, and Larry Caplinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Richard Wayne Caplinger; granddaughter, Tiffany Caplinger and brothers, Emmett W. Caplinger, Jr., Lee Roy Caplinger; and sister-in-law, Kathe Caplinger.

I recall eating with him at the Mutton Creek house, and Spring Mill State park, there was a t.v. station that just shown all day John Wayne films, 5 in a roll were my dad's fav, and likely his too ! sure that our photo's of my parents with him and Bobbie are many, still got the one of them as western era outlaws in Tenn.

He was very sweet man. He and Phil would have short conversations at the nursing home. Your family are in our prayers.

So sorry to hear about Cap''s passing. One of my memoresume of him is that he was always standing around the furnace room at 1st church. It was like he was guarding it. Beth, my heart goes out to you. It is very hard losing your dad. Cherish your mom. Love you guys!!!!

So sorry. I remember him and you and your son. I worked with you at the shirt factory. I remember he had the mustache.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Bobbie. I remember Paul all the way back to Emerson School when I was in grade school. That sure was a long time ago! He was great to talk to. Our prayers go out to you and your family.
