Phillip D. Caudill

Phillip D. Caudill, 65 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015, in Newport News, Virginia.

Phillip was born in Oscaloosa, Kentucky, on May 28, 1950, to the late George and Claudia Clark Caudill.

Phillip graduated in 1969 from Brownstown High School and from Ivy Tech State College in 1990. He went to work at Arvin Meritor, Columbus, until his retirement. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could on his motorcycle. His bike of choice was the Venture, and he was a member of the Venture Club. He drove anywhere and everywhere East of the Mississippi including the Blue Ridge Parkway and even “Slayed the Dragon” by driving the Dragon Trail in 2014. He participated several years in the Memorial Day Ride and the Miracle Day Ride in Indianapolis. He was constantly tinkering in his garage and repaired several bikes for resale. He was an avid reader who enjoyed Louis L’Amour and Tom Clancy. He enjoyed western movies and watching tennis on television. He loved spending time with children and was a substitute teacher. He enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren. Phillip was a selfless man who would drop anything to help someone in need and would give his last gallon of gas out of his own tank.

He is survived by his children, Aubrey (Bryan) Applegate, Jess (Shelley) Caudill, Brendon (Megan) Caudill, and Josiah (Jazmin) Caudill; ten grandchildren, Rhiannon, Aydon, Brauc, Lance, Jacob, Natilee, Dalylah, Elijah, Hazel, and Kendyll; one brother, Jeff Caudill, and two sisters, Barbara (Glenn) Hughes, and Cathy (Willard) Abel.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Crawford and Donnie Caudill.

Services will be held at Voss Chapel Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at Old Regular Baptist Cemetery.

Friends may call at Voss Chapel Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday after 1:00 p.m. until time of service

Memorial checks may be written to Aubrey Applegate to offset funeral expenses.

I met Phil a few years ago as we are both members of The Venturers, a web based international motorcycle club. We have ridden several times together, from short local trips, to some longer ones. We shared those rides and got to be friends. I enjoyed Phil's company. At various times I'd get a call or text saying, "let's ride to St Louis"! I finally learned that was not really his goal, but he was ready to take a ride. Too often I was committed and had to turn him down. Last Fall we made a two day trip to Northern Illinois to visit a Memorial to those who gave their lives in the Gulf Wars. He found the name of a young man he knew of from Brownstown engraved at the memorial. I definitely will miss his calls. I send my sympathies to his entire family. A.C. I met Phil on some Venture Ride In's , the one from Tenn.to WV. in 2013 is one that I got to know him better. He had some tire trouble at one of our stops and we got it patched enough to get him down the road to a Yamaha shop. I along with another Venturer followed him to the shop and waited till he got a new tire mounted. Phil was always saying "Its all good". He was pleasant to be around and I'm glad to have had the chance to know him. My prayer is that God will wrap his loving arms around the family and give you peace during this time.

I met Phil through our shared passion of motorcycle riding. He was such a pleasant and upbeat person to be around. He will be missed deeply by many in our Venturers club. I recall on one ride he rode tailgun position as I led. That is the position in back where he reports that all others are doing OK. I will forever remember Phil on the CB radio telling me all is OKin his own way.... "It's aaaaaall good!" Rest well Phil.
