Samuel E. “Sam” Shearer, 85, of Seymour, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, with his loving family by his side.
Sam was born 1935 in Scott County, Indiana the son of the late Ivan and Virgie (Richey) Shearer.
Sam was a graduate of Scottsburg High School and then earned a business degree from Indiana University. He served our country in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. Sam then went on to marry the love of his life, Bonnie Taylor, and continued his commitment to cherishing her for 65 years.
He was a man of great faith in Jesus and a member of the First Baptist Church for over 55 years and served on many boards and committees. He was a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge in Seymour.
Sam was always active and enjoyed serving in different capacities for organizations throughout his life. A youth baseball coach, a Boy Scout leader, member of Masonic Lodge, and active in the First Baptist Church in Seymour. His hobbies were reading spiritual books especially the Bible and spending time with his family.
Sam will be greatly missed by his wife Bonnie, children Cherri Shearer (Gary Bush), Anthony “Tony” (Valerie) Shearer, Pamela (Mark) Hauersperger, grandchildren Anthony A. (Samantha) Shearer, Alex Shearer, Jonathan Hauersperger, Taylor Hauersperger (Fianc� Alex Taylor), Samuel Hauersperger, and sister Phyllis Lytle.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Pauline Moorman.
Private services will be conducted at Voss and Sons Funeral Service on Friday with Rev. Larry Tingle, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Family requests all checks be made out for Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
The family appreciates all the prayers and concern for them in this time of loss. Sam will be missed by many friends in the community, but all services are private for the safety of the family and friends. Cards and notes of condolence will be most welcome.
In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks are required before admittance to the funeral home as well as social distancing within the building. We kindly ask that there be no physical contact such as hugs or handshakes to protect staff and the family. Attendance is limited to 25 people at any given time.
