Steven Hubert “Steve” Acton, 61 of Norman, Indiana, passed away Wednesday 11:00 p.m., April 19, 2017 at home.
He was born September 23, 1955, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of the late Melvin Leroy and Priscilla Ann (Smith) Acton.
He married Sally Beth Long on October 6, 1979, at First Baptist Church in Seymour, Indiana, and she survives.
Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour. He graduated from Brownstown High School in 1973 and received an Associates Degree from IVY Tech. He worked for several years as an EMT, 19 years for the Department of Natural Resources and at Columbus Regional Hospital as a Biomedical Engineer Technician until his retirement. He was a member of the Six Mile Masonic Lodge in Hayden and the Elks Lodge in Seymour. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, boating and any activity with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sally, their children: Lucas “Luke” (Shelly) Acton and Elizabeth”Beth” Acton (Brad) Blair; six grandchildren: Branson Self, Andon Self, Miller Acton, Maddox Acton, Taylor Blair and Zeke Blair; and three brothers: Bob (Nancy) Acton, Gary (Virginia) Acton and Doug (Mildred) Acton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Clifton Ray Long.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral Service on Monday with Reverend Larry Tingle officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather at Voss Chapel on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Monday after 9 a.m. until time of service. A Masonic service will be Sunday 4:45 p.m.
Memorial checks may be written to Schneck Medical Center Cancer Center, Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or First Baptist Church of Seymour.
