Mrs. Vercil I. Brown, 88 of Seymour, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, July 1, 2015, with her family by her side.
Mrs. Brown was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on November 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Norman E. and Anna B (Goins) Wilson. On January 5, 1945, she married Leland V. Brown in Lexington, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2003.
Mrs. Brown had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour for over 50 years. While a member, she served as Junior High Sunday School Superintendent for 35 years, Nursery Superintendent for 10 years, and BYF Superintendent for 30 years. Vercil was a member of WMS of First Baptist Church, a 39 year member of Jackson County Extension Club, a 4-H Leader for more than 35 years and taught cooking at the Girl’s Club for many years. She had been employed at the HL Green Department Store, Sylvania, and the Morris Store and cleaned houses for many people besides being a homemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a special love for her flowers and the outdoors as well as her fur babies, Cricket her dog, and her cats, Sabrina, Tiger and Baby.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith A. (Jerry) Turner, sons: Leland V. Brown Jr., David W. (Mary) Brown, Joseph N. (Dondra) Brown; grandchildren: Lisa (Jim) Kincaid, Kyle (Jenny) Brown, Jacob Daniel Brown, Joseph Christopher Brown, Samuel Lee Brown (Shannon Goings, fiancé); great-grandchildren: Brandon Mark Holtman, Colin Phillip and Madison Leigh Brown, her sister, Joyce (Bob) Carey and her sister-in-law, Norma Jean Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, April Elaine Brown, brothers; Edwin G. Wilson in 94 and David E. Wilson in 92.
Services will be at Voss Chapel Monday, July 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Larry Tingle officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday after 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Memorials may be written to the First Baptist Church of Seymour, Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or Jackson County 4-H Foundation.
