Mr. William E. Spray, 91, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 at The Lutheran Community Home. He was born in Seymour on March 8, 1927 to the late William E. and Emma (Combs) Spray.
Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Friday, August 17 at 11 am with Reverend Andrew Currao and Reverend Joseph Barlau officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Thursday from 4-8 pm and at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Friday from 10am until time of service.
He was a graduate of Seymour High School, class of 1945. He was a veteran of the US Army involved with the reconstruction of Europe immediately after WWII. On November 24, 1948, in Seymour, he married Ruth Droege; she preceded him in death on April 21, 2015. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church serving on various boards including being a former president of the congregation. He enjoyed Bible Study and attended both Bible Study Fellowship of Columbus and Life Light Bible Study at Redeemer Lutheran. He was the former owner of Spray Sand & Gravel and was elected to the Indiana Mineral Aggregate Association Hall of Fame.
William is survived by his children, Sue (Bill) Boyd, Peggy (Rick) Schleibaum and Mary (Jerry) Schooler; grandchildren, Anna Hutcheson, Peter Boyd, Casey (Melanie) Ritz, Todd Schleibaum, Curt (Summer) Schleibaum, Amy (Josh) Merideth, Molly (Nicholas) Klinger, Elizabeth Schooler; great-grandchildren, Matthew Hutcheson, Morgan Ritz, Megan Ritz, Calvin Ritz, Maddix Schleibaum, Madilyn Schleibaum and Emma Klinger; and brother-in-law, Bill Findley.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years, Ruth Spray; daughter, Barb Ritz; and sisters, Faye (Woody) Lahne and Rosemary Findley.
Memorials may be written to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Schneck Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.
He will be missed by his family and the many people whose lives he touched.
