William M. Weaver, age 89, of Seymour went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 21, 2024 surrounded by his family. “Brother Bill” is preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Weaver; parents, Marshall & Marie (Hastings) Weaver; his daughter, Melody Weaver; and two brothers, Norman & Don Weaver. Survivors include his three children, Marsha (David) Branco, David (Julie) Weaver and Dan (Amy) Weaver; seven grandchildren, Kristal Biehle, Adrienne Conoyer, Neel Weaver, Eric Pitts, Alicia Weaver, Hannah Weaver and Sam Weaver; and nine great grandchildren.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of Portland (IN) High School and a student at Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee until 1956. He began his life of Christian ministry serving at the Cortland Christian Church from 1956-1961, then the Warren (IN) Church of Christ from 1961-1968 and finally at the Reddington Christian Church from 1968-2001. In “retirement” he took on four jobs, serving the Seymour Christian Church, Calvary Christian Church in Edinburgh, volunteering with the VFW Honor Guard as a bugler, and performing numerous funerals for those who desired a Christian service, until his second retirement in 2020. In total, he served the Lord’s church for 64 years. His presence in this community will certainly be missed.
Among his many passions were singing in a men’s quartet, serving at Hilltop Christian Service Camp, playing softball, cheering for the Reds & Hoosiers, playing his trumpet at area nursing homes, and serving churches in a multitude of clubs and organizations. Bill couldn’t go anywhere in Seymour or Jackson County without running into an old friend, church member or someone in a family for whom he performed a wedding or a funeral. He hosted a weekly radio show “Moments of Inspiration” on WJCD in Seymour for over 25 years. He also had a passion for world missions. Three he supported generously were Christian Missionary Fellowship, where his grandson Eric serves in Kenya, Mas Que Creyentes with Michell Marte in the Dominican Republic, and Ambassadors for Christ with Charles Littell in the Philippines. Above all these passions was his passion for his family. He loved spending time with his children & grandchildren. He loved gardening, yard work, caring for flowers and traveling with his wife of 66 years, Clara Mae. Everyone who knew Bill was blessed by his joy, generosity and lovingkindness.
Funeral services for Bill will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Christian Church, 915 Kasting Road. Reverend Marty Wright of Ogilville Christian Church will officiate. Friends and family may call at Seymour Christian Church Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Bill will be laid to rest in Reddington Cemetery immediately following the service.
