Mr. Allen Thompson, 83, of Cortland, passed away on Friday March 21, 2014 at his residence.
Born September 19, 1930, in Seymour, IN, he was the son of Ralph and Susie (Quinn) Thompson.
On February 27, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers, he married Lucille Leah Rust who survives.
Mr. Thompson was a graduate from Shields High School in 1948. Allen served in the U.S. Army from September 10, 1951 to August 12, 1953. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He participated in 16 jumps and multiple supply drops for our troops. He was a lifetime farmer and also served on the Seymour FFA advisory board.
Besides his wife, Lucille of 60 years, he is survived by his children: Dana (Mark) Henley, and Brian (Karla) Thompson; grandchildren: Leah (John) Watson, Janelle Thompson, Ben (Kayla) Thompson, and Tyler (Tiffany) Downing; great grandchildren: Annabelle, Abigail and Brooklyn Watson; Brother: Leo (Alberta) Thompson and Sister Helen Lutes.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, on Monday March 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Stephen Wood officiating.
Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery Borcher’s with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Sunday March 23, 2014 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service.
