Anita R. (Bedell) Rothring
On December 6th, 2023, Anita Rothring passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was 75 years old. Anita, a lifelong resident of Indiana, was born to Marjorie and James Bedell. She attended Crothersville Community School before studying at Indiana University where she obtained both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education.
A dedicated wife, mother, and teacher, Anita was beloved by her husband, children, and the hundreds of students who passed through her classroom over the course of her more than 30 year career as an educator. She was known for many things from her colorful attire and bright fuchsia lipstick to her vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to language arts education.
Although Anita is no longer physically with us, she lives on through those she taught, and through the words of wisdom she passed to her children with perhaps the most memorable and impactful being, “Whatever you are, be a good one.”
Anita is survived by her husband of 53 years John, her children Ben Rothring, Alexis (Salina) McLellan, and Mary (Patrick) Richardson, her grandson Fintan Richardson, and her sister Rita Surber. She was preceded in death by her son Elliott and her parents Marjorie and James.
Funeral services for Anita will be held on Tuesday, December 12 at Voss and Sons Funeral Service and Crematory, 316 N. Chestnut St., at 10:00AM. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Monday evening, from 4:00 to 8:00PM and again on Tuesday morning from 9:00AM until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Uniontown Cemetery, Uniontown, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The United Way Rock’n Ready Initiative which provides free, basic school supplies for children in grades K-12 in Jackson County schools, www.jacsy.org/rocknready or To St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
