Betty Jane Gill Harper, 90, of Sellersburg, In., passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Center in New Albany, In.
She was born January 3, 1924, in Seymour, In. to Doris Marie Crabb Gill and Albert Gill. She was one of six children: Helen (Gill) Storz, John Gill, Robert Gill, Lois (Gill) Monies and Mary Lou (Gill) Grillo Bode. Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Conrad Storz, Doris Gill, Jean Gill, Larry Monies, and Nick Grillo. Marvin Harper, Evelyn (Harper) Thompson, Jeanne (Harper) Nichols and Patty (Harper) Dixon.
On April 1, 1942, she married H. Glen Harper of Seymour, In. They had 4 children: Monte Gil Harper (deceased), Gary Glen Harper, Susan Marie Surgoth (husband Steve Surgoth, deceased) and Gregg Alan Harper (wife Mary Suzanne Schaeffer, deceased). She was also blessed with grandchildren: Logan Glen Harper, Emily Marie Harper, Stephanie Marie Surgoth (Ryan) Winkel, Amy Jane Surgoth, Steven Harper Surgoth, Michael Glen Harper, Mary Catherine Harper, Sarah Ann Harper, a great granddaughter Vivien Marie Winkel, several nieces and nephews survive. Vivien loved her great grandmother, “Gee Gee”
Betty and Glen moved to Indianapolis, In from Seymour in 1959 and subsequently to Sellersburg, In. in 1970. Betty was a doting mother, caring and loving grandmother. While in Sellersburg she did work as the Secretary of the Superintendent of West Clark Community Schools. She was a member of the Sellersburg United Methodist Church. She loved to play “Bunco” with her friends while in Sellersburg and loved to vacation with her children and grandchildren. She will be missed but kept forever in our hearts.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Monte G. Harper, brothers John H. Gill, Robert Gill, and sisters Lois A. Monies, Mary Lou Bode, and Helen Storz.
Funeral services will be held at Voss Chapel on Friday, March 7, at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jon Pearce officiating.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at Voss Chapel on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of service.
