David Allen Isaacs, 73, of Seymour, IN passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Franciscan Hospital in Greenwood. He was born on May 13, 1950, in Seymour, the son of William Wayne and Mary Maxine (Hiten) Isaacs. On July 18, 1971, David married Laurinda Rector in Anderson, IN and she survives.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by three children, Laurie (Randy) Tempest of Muncie, IN, Brian (Jennifer) Isaacs of Brownstown, IN and Will (Kenzie) Isaacs of Yorktown, IN; seven grandchildren, Joseph (Olive) Tempest, Kyle Tempest, Ethan Isaacs, Brooklyn Isaacs, Trey Isaacs, Camryn Isaacs, and Anson Isaacs; and one sister, Karel Ann (Lou) Randall of North Vernon, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, Rusty Harrison.
David was a 1968 graduate of the Seymour Community School Corporation. After graduating high school, he went on to Ball State University where he earned his B.S. degree in Fisheries Resources in 1972. He worked at Aquatic Control in Seymour from 1966 until his retirement in 2017. During his time of employment, he served as laboratory director, fish hatchery manager, manager of fountain and aeration and Vice-President. In November of 2000, he was named President of Aquatic Control where he remained until his retirement.
David was a life member of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) and a member of the Fish Culture Section AFS. He was a charter member of the Indiana Chapter AFS and served as Secretary-Treasurer and President. Mr. Isaacs was a member of the Sigma Zeta honorary science society. He played a primary role in forming the Indiana Aquaculture Association, Inc. He served as the Charter President of this association, served on the board of directors from 1987 to 2001, and served a second term as President in 1995. Mr. Isaacs was elected to the Board of the Midwest Aquatic Plant Management Society in 2000 where he served 16 years and served as President in 2003 and 2009. He earned the MAPMS Distinguished Service award in 2014 and was given Honorary Membership of MAPMS in 2017. Mr. Isaacs was also a member of the National Aquatic Plant Management Society, where he served on the board of directors. He was a member of Indiana Lake Management Society, Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Foundation, and Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment where he served as a member of the Aquatics committee.
David enjoyed being outdoors and hunting in his free time and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He was a passionate mentor to each of them and left a lasting impression in each of their lives. He was an active member of the Honeytown Christian Church where he served in many roles such as deacon, elder, chairman of the board, song leader and various other committees and ways over the years. David volunteered at Hoosier Christian Village as a song leader when the church provided their monthly church service.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral Home in Seymour. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 4 – 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Honeytown Christian Church.
