David W. Hoene 66, of the Borchers community, passed away November 21, 2014, due to an accident while cutting trees.
David was born April 18, 1948, in Seymour. He was the son of Alvin and Betty Knott Hoene. His mother survives in Brownstown.
He farmed and owned and operated an Excavating company with his sons. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers. David graduated from Columbus High School in 1966. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Air Force from 1967 to 1969.
David was the Jackson Township trustee, Bartholomew County for 32 years. While serving as trustee, he spearheaded the building of the Southwest Fire Station #2 in Waymansville. He had also served on the County Planning and Zoning Board. David was very community minded. David loved helping people, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, camping and his family. Family, friends and neighbors meant the world to him.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Denney Hoene; mother, Betty; sons, Doug (Abby) Hoene, Dan (Freedom Stidham) Hoene, Derek (Brandi) Hoene; and step-children, Brad (Jennifer) Albert and Andy (Ashley) Albert; grandchildren, Logan Hoene, Sophie Hoene, Jack Hoene, Sam Hoene, Amelia Bliton, Beau Hoene, Sierra Barkes, Brandon Albert, Andrew Albert, Kyle Albert, Gavin Albert, Landon Albert and Jasmin. His first great-grandchild is due to arrive in December. He is also survived by his mother; and brothers, Joe (Kay) Hoene and Tim (Judy) Hoene.
He is preceded in death by his father; and sister, Rebecca Woolsey.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers with the Rev. Stephen Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Church cemetery with full graveside military rites conducted by the VFW Post #1925, American Legion Post #47, Korean and Vietnam #7 all of Seymour.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014, and after 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday November 25, 2014, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Borchers.
Memorials may be written to the New Church Building Fund, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Donor’s Choice.
