Mrs. Dorothy F. Hess, 94 of Seymour, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015.
Dorothy was born in Jennings County, Indiana, on August 25, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Vogel) Maschino.
On September 27, 1947, she married Harrell C. Hess who preceded her on January 31, 2013.
Dorothy was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour and a member and past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella, the church choir “Lucy’s Larks”, and the regular choir. She had served on several boards at church and held offices such as president, vice president, auditor, guard, and recording church secretary. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann Layton, her sons, David (Dee) Hess, Wayne (Cara) Hess, Mark (Cari) Hess; grandchildren, Steve Crumly, Alan (Jessica) Crumly, Bryan Layton, Jill (Bradley) Maddox, Heather (Richard) Norrell, Hunter Hess, Whitney Hess, Carter Hess, Caroline Hess, Charlie Hess, Grayson Hess, and Christina Hess; great-grandchildren, Erin Layton, Jacob Layton, Jackson Maddox, Grace Maddox, and Avery Brielle Crumly; sisters, Loretta Henkle, Mildred Thomas, and Angela Hill; a brother, Marvin (LaDonna) Maschino, a sister-in-law, Patricia Maschino, a brother-in-law, Ken Kvall, several nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Marilyn Crumly; infant daughter, Elaine Hess; son-in-law, Bruce Layton, brothers, Orville Maschino, Joseph Maschino and Anthony Maschino; and sisters, Dolores Maschino, Helen Thoele, Leona Brylinski and Mary Jean Kvaal.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Friday, October 2, 2015, at 10:00 am with Father Dan Staublin officiating and assisted by Deacon Mike East. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour, Indiana.
Friends and family may call at Voss Chapel on Thursday from 4-8 pm and at St. Ambrose after 9:00 am until time of mass Friday. A Rosary Service will be held at 3:30 pm Thursday.
